I love the feeling I had while writing it—the moments something kicked into gear and I suddenly understood a character or a moment and the book became a little more real to me. omg yes i know what you're talking about, i will be Judging books by their covers! how can i not! we need less cartoon covers / random water splotches! if i may ask, what would your shellfish novel have as a book cover? (if you don't want to share and want to keep that private that's ok!)

oh u sweet angel this is the best question in the world!! ok either:

a) minimalist murky green or black cover with the outline of a sardine on the cover, with a pearl for its eye OR

b) a photo-realistic picture of sardines on ice, like at a fish market, a little gross and bloody, and one of the sardines is encrusted in jewels

last night I jumped ahead and wrote the final chapter of my novel, and then just now I finally figured out how I’m going to get from current events to that final chapter!! I’m almost there!! and then I get to start over and actually make it make sense!!

today I was rereading the chunk of my novel that I’m giving to my professor and I realized that, like, it’s obviously not very good yet and also there’s no plot etc etc BUT it reminds me of the kinds of books I love to read. mostly unintentionally (but also like yeah duh of course) I’m writing the kind of story that I love to read. and tbh the hardest part of writing a novel is holding on to the desire to Keep Writing The Novel so I’m writing this down for next time I feel doubtful!

oh no I think I just figured out how my novel is gonna end :( I am sad :( I am in charge of this story why have I decided that it has to end like that

anyway niche request but does anyone have a particular translation of The Odyssey they love, or idk good meta/poetry/fiction which responds to the Odyssey? I threw in a little allusion a million chapters ago and now I’m realizing it’s like wildly integral to the whole project and it’s like OOPS guess I have to reread!!
