I have a hucklerabbot soulmate idea with lots of angst and repression on all sides.

Essentially, Dennis was born into a religious sect that believed soulmates shouldn’t be of the same gender. Also, it’s only “pure” to have one soulmate. If someone is born with more than one soulmate, or a soulmate with a gender-specific name that matches the one the baby has? They’re burned off.

Dennis grows up with two scars, a long one along his collarbone and one across his hip. He learned long ago to not grieve what he’d never find. Even if he doesn’t believe what that sect believes anymore, he also has no hope of finding his soulmates.

Cue Robby and Jack who are both shocked to hear their second soulmates name come out of this little MS4 who looks like if he misses one meal, he’ll fall apart. There’s no reaction from him when they say their names and they don’t want to pressure him so they decide to keep a low profile and let him come to them.

Lots of miscommunication in this idea, btw. Mostly because Jack and Robby are trying to give Dennis the space to come to them and Dennis doesn’t even know they’re his soulmates until several months to a year in.

can't lie i'm in the process of looking at cars and buying a car and it's really stressful and makes me wanna cry. i might do something to dennis whitaker about it. should i kill him? should i kill me favorite guy at the moment?

Okay, but actually, it's very interesting to have Jack Abbot be willing to give a girl the abortion she wants by fudging the numbers, but also not criticize the ICE agents and actively help SWAT. Even if he's just a medic, it's helping during SWAT raids.

I don't know a lot, but also veterans aren't... treated very well after their service. In a lot of ways. Either by the system they went into or the people around them. The only person I knew personally who served was my grandfather, but he lived states away and I only saw him once a year before he passed when I was very young. My mother doesn't talk a lot about what that was like for him, but the avoidance is a pretty big answer given what she is willing to talk about.

In any case, Jack didn't leave on his own terms. It happened when he lost his leg while serving as a combat medic. Maybe he wanted to stay in more, maybe that's what contributes to him helping with SWAT. Not leaving on his own terms means he might not see past his own thought process. He wanted to stay but he was forced out. In his mind, other people want to stay in the service too. They're doing it for honorable reasons so he can't get past his own biases and think "No, their service is active harm."

This is all very disjointed, but a lot of people like to excuse his words and actions without actually giving deeper thought into why he might be saying or acting that way. I think it's very interesting for him to be progressive in one aspect but not in another.

(Of course, I do flatten characters a LOT in my writing because i just wanna make them kiss, but I do also think a lot about them outside of that.)

slowburn or love at first sight: I love writing slowburn, but reading slowburn has me ACHING. I love them both, but most of what I read is one-shots which are often love at first sight, or already established relationships. Both. Both is good.

fake dating or secret dating: Secret dating is almost always angst and as much as I LOVE angst, that flavor isn’t my jam. Fake dating? DELICIOUS

enemies to lovers or best friends to lovers: I enjoy enemies to lovers if it’s paired with Fake Dating, otherwise best friends to lovers. They have more of a connection.

there’s only one bed or long-distance correspondence: I’ve only been in two relationships and both of them were long-distance at some point and I did NOT enjoy it. Only one bed has so much fun mini-tropes in it.

hurt/comfort or amnesia: Hurt/Comfort was ALL I READ in middle school. I gotta stick by it though everything.

fantasy au or modern au: I read enough “trashy” roman-tasy to satisfy my fantasy itch. Modern is easier to understand and less world-building to get through.

mutual pining or domestic bliss: I love reading each characters thoughts, especially if they’re both “No, they don’t like me like that.” UGH. It’s so fun to me.

smut or fluff: I read a fair amount of both, but fluff… I love soft moments between characters.

canon-compliant or fix-it: I don’t like either of them, and I don’t feel like they’re exact opposites. In a lot of media, there are spaces between canon to put fics and that’s sort of where I like to sit.

reincarnation or character death: I’ve never read reincarnation but MCD… I can’t do it. It’s too much angst.

one-shot or multi-chapter: Most of what I read are one-shot’s because I read them at night, HOWEVER I do read multi-chapter as well. Currently keeping up with My Service Dog Dennis by @jackabbotsdog. I am also rereading No Pain, No Gain by @puppydogwhitaker so I can remember plotlines and not mix them up with other fics… I do that too much.

kid fic or road trip fic: I did a lot of roadtrips as a kid, visiting family that lived half a day away. It’s something familiar and I… I don’t really like kids. I like my nephew! Because he’s not even one and just babbles, but I don’t like kids.

arranged marriage or accidental marriage: I’m gonna be so honest, I didn’t even know accidental marriage was an option. There’s angst and slowburn potential with arranged marriage and that’s so tasty to me.

high-school romance or middle-age romance: I liked high school AU’s when I was in high school! Now if I read a school AU, it’s college. I don’t really read those though… Plus, middle-age can have characters that are more sure of themselves and emotionally mature. Not always! But, still.

time travel or isolated together: I’ve read a few time travel fics, but they’re not something that’s my cup of tea. I really like isolated together (forced proximity? are they the same thing?). There’s angst appeal and just them being idiots together. One fic I really liked was It COULD be worse by Lanam_1313.

neighbors or roommates: Neighbors is more fun to me because they only get glimpses of each other and need more excuses to see each other. It’s fun to watch characters make dumb reasons to see each other.

sci-fi au or magic au: I like Sci-Fi, but I watch enough Sci-Fi and Sci-Fi adjacent media that magic AU is more appealing to me.

body swap or genderbent: I don’t think I’ve ever read a genderbend before, if I’m being honest. Body Swap on the other hand…

angst or crack: Crack is so fun and tasty, but I am an angst writer most of the time. Plus, angst = hurt/comfort always (do NAWT correct me. I don’t wanna see what’s over there.

apocalyptic or mundane: I get too stressed when things are apocalyptic. There are some good apocalyptic scenarios I will read, though. I would be a fic rec here but I fear… I shant. I can’t expose myself like that, actually.

happy ending or unhappy ending: If I read an unhappy ending I might throw-up.

"Intro" Post

I know there's side-blogs, but when I looked at those I felt like an old man so instead I made a Whole New account. Because that's a normal person thing to do.

Anyway, main account is oopshenangians! I

I want to explore writing more explicit work, but would like to do so on a new account as it's more comfortable for me that way... If that makes any sense.
