Discworld inktober day 28 - Mephistopheles and Geoffrey Swivel
Geoffrey is a sweet boy who did not approve of his father’s treatment of nature, or of himself. So he did the smartest thing he could, he left. On his journey he made a friend with an oddly intelligent goat. They were both introduced in Terry Pratchett’s last discworld book, the Shepherds Crown. I connected strongly with Geoffrey because he did not approve of the norms that society tried to force on him, and found his own way.
As always Tips Appreciated 🙏
Okay so I just reread Shepherd’s Crown for the first time in years and maybe I’m tired and the baby is next to me in bed but
Am I crazy or did Pterry imply that Granny worked herself to death?
-the last full day she’s around Granny, an old woman, spends it flying around and in text forgets to eat until she gets home
-Granny mentions that she is surprised she doesn’t go first with all her drinking and shenanigans
-one of the themes throughout the book is Asking For Help. Tiffany is given TWO steadings and the running of both is clearly too much for her so she….asks for help! And is given it! From the Feegles helping her with chores, to Nanny and her parents feeding her when she’s with them, from asking Miss Tick for apprentices to Geoffrey, Magrat coming in to show Letitia how it’s done… it’s hard for Tiffany to ask for help but she does and she gets it!
-Nanny frames it at one point as “don’t be too prideful to ask for help” and where did she see that?
-also Jeanne making a point of telling Tiffany to go her own way, see that boi
And look I’m a little toasty and swamped in my own ish Rn but how good is this? Like even in his last book Terry was dropping the bombs and he was just so awesome
Haul of fossil sea urchins after five days of walking beaches on Thyholm and in Thy. They're also called "Shepherd's Crowns" or thunderstones, because in folklore they are associated with Thor.
I am already so excited for the gender side of this book!
important things to think about with this last discworld book
