headcanon: sherlock deduced at bart’s that john wasn’t happy with his life and made it his number one priority and almost like an experiment to make him happy again and feel loved and wanted and to bring out the best side in john and to get him to bring his abilities to the world to fight crime and help others but sherlock starts to fall in love with him when he begins to realise how truly brilliant and fascinating john watson actually is and he’s getting ready to tell him how he feels and all he has done to help him become this person until mary comes along and john gets caught up in her life and she makes him even better so he just sits and watches because john’s happiness is so imporant to him and he would rather continue to watch him grow stronger everyday than ruin whatever was between them
