shermsalot yeah i think they start earlier nowadays but i started with english in fourth grade. it's mandatory up until the first or second year of high school i think and then you can choose if you want to take more advanced courses
we get the option to study an extra foreign language too(usually french, german or spanish) but the level of education can be pretty different from school to school and teacher to teacher in some cases and ugh yeah it sucks when they rely too much on standardized testing. and it's ok i would never hate your swedish, since it isn't a widely spoken language or anything like that i always think it's really nice when someone makes the effort to pick up phrases or try to learn more of it :)
