This is plainly a result of the 03 series following a slightly altered narrative, but I still can't help but prefer the way Hughes actively hides what's happening in Central from Mustang.

He even avoids telling Mustang that the boys wound up in the hospital (instead of simply forgetting to mention it to him), which majorly pisses off Mustang when he finds out from someone else, so much so that he's speeding off for a night trip to Central in this version rather than staying in Eastern Command.
