You can talk about this episode's weaknesses as much as you want (really, you can, because even I can't spin most of it's weaknesses into strengths), but some of my favorite scenes in the 03 series come from this episode, one of which being when Al remembers their mom being bedridden and cutting an apple for them.

It's a small moment, and it obviously exists to show how Al sees a maternal side to Clara as she cares for the patients (which is actually a recurring element of his throughout the series), but I like how it adds a bit more substance to that period of time where Ed and Al were doing their best to care for Trisha before she passed. Seeing Clara at work reminded Al of one of the better days when their mom wasn't in a fever induced delirium or struggling to sit up in bed.

why the fuck was the latest episode of Go for it, Nakumura Kun so damn relatable 😭

Seriously. That one scene of Nakumara walking while being surrounded by a bunch of heterosexual couples after learning that Hirose has a girlfriend might be the single most relatable thing I've ever seen. Something like that happens to almost every queer person who's lived in an unaccepting, heteronormative culture (which I'm sure is all of us). Honestly, I hate how relatable this episode was. I hate it, but I love it. I'm not sure what I want the ending of this series to be. God. I literally cried at this episode it was so heartbreaking.

And you always know, deep down, that they're probably never going to actually date you, but it still hurts like hell when it happens. Because you're just a fucking 15 year old who has dreams of falling in love like most other people, the only difference is, you love the same gender.

I've also been exactly here before

You think you're fine with just being friends, but then, they start dating, and your whole world turns upside down. Reading too much into your friendship until you start having hope, and then it being ripped away. It fucking hurts.

Anyways.

I'll be fair to the animators: while I find it very dumb that they couldn't show a gunshot wound to a hand, they did at least manage to show the mechanisms of injury and death as best as they could without being too graphic.

In all fairness, the first episode had some pretty good gore when Gabby was chomping villagers. It was a little hard to see but you could see bones of the ribs and the folds in the exposed brain. I checked and that wasn't in the manga so it was added to the first episode.

Yeah I went on a little rant about that in the tags because it bothers me so much. I wondered if the censors are indecisive about what can and can't be allowed on screen, which is odd since, as you said, we've seen varying degrees of injuries and killings so far and the animators had no problem making their own additions.

I'm more willing to believe there was a serious hiccup with the storyboarding for EP9 that led to a gunshot wound of all things being excluded, but even that's a stretch😑Censoring the two goons getting killed wouldn't be such a big deal to me if they'd just committed to the guy getting a bullet blown through his hand by ex-military member Tadera Ryuu.

I somehow lost that post where someone talked about how Conqueror of Shamballa frustrates them because Ed states that he's 18 when he should actually be 19 because his birthday arrives after the Lab 5 incident which would make him 16 throughout the rest of the series and yeah I never really thought about that.

But I saw people mentioning how the world on the other side of the Gate is six years ahead of Amestris (1923 vs 1917), so maybe time passes a bit differently there. That makes sense✌🏼
