Here's a portrait of another under-appreciated male character in Escaflowne - Chesta the Dragonslayer.

  Chesta (spelled Shesta in some translations) is one of Dilandau's team of elite Guymelef pilots. He is an innocent and cheerful youth with an authentic Mediaeval hairstyle who is very loyal to his comrades and Dilandau. I've noticed when in danger Dilandau often calls out for lil’ Chesta's help, showing the two have a strong bond. This sweet kid unfortunately fights for the evil Zaibach empire.

Aruto calls for a press conference, days after his fight against Horobi.

It has been days since the battle between Horobi and Aruto.

Aruto had called for a press conference despite the fact that his body was still on the verge of collapsing in of itself. He had been without food since Izu's death and the water he had been drinking was from the waters that surrounded Daybreak town.

Only Doctor Omigoto and Aruto himself were aware of that fact, and he wanted to keep it that way.

Doctor Omigoto had protested strenuously at the press conference, he even went so far as to beg Aruto to postpone the conference he had called.

"I'm sorry, Doctor," Aruto gave the good Humagear doctor a smile. "This is for your sake as well."

Aruto had requested Shesta to bring him the three-piece suit he had worn on the very first press conference he had called as president of Hiden Intelligence.

"I'm sorry for calling you, Shesta," Aruto apologized. "You were the only one who knew where…" He trailed off before gulping. "Where Izu put these."

"It is of no problem, President Aruto," Shesta shook her head. "Vice President Fukuzoe has also asked me to bring this to you citing that you need to look presentable for the press conference."

"Vice President Fukuzoe is really dependable," Aruto smiled. "You can go back to your duties now, Shesta."

"I was also tasked to bring you to the venue of the press conference, President Aruto." Shesta informed. "Vice President Fukuzoe cited his worries if you are to attend the conference alone."

"President Aruto, I must insist that you should postpone the press conference," Doctor Omigoto exclaimed. "You're too injured to attend one; you could reopen your wounds."

"Don't worry, Doctor," Aruto smiled. "I won't be long at the conference, I have already instructed Vice President Fukuzoe to answer the questions the media personnel will have."

When it comes to your character's thoughts and feelings, are they an open book or a locked safe? Are they willing to assert their opinions even when they aren't popular? Are they willing to lie about their beliefs to get out of a tough situation?

ok imma answer with shesta for this one because he’s been on the brain:

shesta’s got uh. more trauma than your average kid i’d say— his mom (who happens to be the goddess of spring) left when he was 6, his dad was a total asshole who sent him off to the sideshow after finding out his kid was immortal, his best friend talon turned out to be part demon and stopped associating with him because he was a demigod, he got into a bad fight with a werewolf and almost died— basically he’s got a lot of trauma and some bad trust issues. he’s a closed book to a lot of people, so most of the other performers in the sideshow don’t know anything about him aside from what vague rumors run around and what information they can get out of talon. the only thing they really know about is that werewolf fight because a lot of them watched it happen.

shesta is pretty soft-spoken and doesn’t really like to bother people in any shape or form, so he just sorta goes with the flow and rarely gives his own opinion on something if he’s unsure the person he’s talking to will agree with him. he doesn’t really like to lie either, instead opting to just not say anything, but will lie if necessary or to get out of a tight/uncomfortable situation
