Demand WCPO - 9 Cease Misgendering Leelah Alcorn
WCPO - 9 "On Your Side" is a Cincinnati local news outlet that has been continuing transmisogynistic, inaccurate, faulty, transantagonistic reportage that intentionally misgenders Leelah Alcorn. They inconsistently switch between usage of the incorrect pronoun "he" and the correct pronoun of "she," and even their articles correctly identifying that Leelah was transgender refuse to acknowledge that she was a trans girl, not "someone who wished they were a girl." WCPO has failed to insert [sic] editorial indicators in quotes from others referencing Leelah as "he," enabling others to misgender her even after death. They refuse to consistently use Leelah's name, instead reposting the dead name that was used to erase her.They are not engaging with many criticisms but please leave a comment or call their offices to notify them that their reportage is faulty, incorrect, and contributing to the hatred, erasure and cis-supremacy that led to Leelah's tragic suicide. They have posted subsequent articles by their editors defending their intentional misgendering of Leelah. This is unacceptable. Leelah implored us to fix society - the least we can do is try to fix the reporting of her death. This is unethical journalism that needs to stop.
