Clandestine Meetings || Alec and Becca
Alec sat in the rear corner of the café at the base of Dr. Curtis’ building. He still couldn’t quite believe she had come back to New York after all of these years. He’d had her movements watched, discreetly of course, and had found that she frequented this cafe before going to work. He’d even gone ahead and ordered for her. A warm croissant, and a coffee with the lightest touch of chocolate and vanilla to it. It had been her favorite breakfast all those years ago, when they had dated.
He chuckled to himself at the thought. That had been when he was still making a slight attempt at a normal life. His mother had hounded him to ‘find someone nice and settle down.’ Rebecca Curtis, heir to an international corporation and just the tiniest bit naive because of it, had fit the bill perfectly. Of course when his, ah, side job at the time had interfered with the relationship, it had scared her so badly she had fled the country just to get away from him. He’d made it thoroughly clear to those responsible how displeased he’d been with that development. After that, he’d made no further attempts; there was no point to trying to be normal when he so clearly wasn’t.
He straightened in his seat when he saw his ex walk into the café. He waited until she settled at a table, opening the book she carried with her. Once she had, he got to his feet and strode over, smile wide, then leaned down to embrace her, kissing her lightly on each cheek. “Bec, it’s so good to see you. Sorry I’m so late for breakfast.” He snapped his fingers at the waiter that had taken the order, indicating his new table. The man’s eyebrows raised, seeing the other occupant, but nodded and went to retrieve the order.
