It's both a little sad and funny to me that in Marathon Infinity you like, you save the wrong Durandal. I do wonder if this is why they let you go... not being the one with a decade of built up relationships or at minimum, having had marathon work out differently which is what lead to being in Tycho's possession in that timeline. The only time Durandal has let you close to him is when he is dying, and to this one, you showed up, with weapons you couldn't possibly have found, to steal him.

Yeahhhh the whole ending of Infinity is really sad to me, I vividly remember being in a call at the end and some people being like ‘you doing ok..?’ And i sadly mumbled back ‘my wife left me…’

The whole thing of the Winning Scenario being so far from what you know is right. The sheer amount of history that must be altered to make it right, and how none of the relationships are the same is just mildly agonizing.

Its not your Durandal, he barely knows you, either he didnt think you were worthy to bring along, or you didnt help him get off the Marathon at all. You’re Tycho’s unit. You’re some stranger that took a hammer to Durandal, stashed away the remains, and cut and ran. Your existence must be terrifying and baffling to Durandal in that timeline. You’re not his, and he’s not yours. But for SOME reason you care about him enough to save him. You’re connected in some bizarre way, and its not right but its a victory. Its SO. AUGH.

Hi, followed you because twitter is on it's last legs, and I'm wondering, will you be doing posts talking about your life and politics here too? It was nice to get to people talking about experiences on twitter and I'm afraid we'll lose a lot of that in the migrations and community splits...

If Twitter continues to be viable to use and everything kind of goes back to normal after some time (which I kind of doubt, tbh):

I will continue to use Twitter as my primary social platform, which also means posting those musings on life and politics

I will still make an effort to maintain my Tumblr, but I will likely end up specialising between them. Tumblr will probably be more art and art commentary focused, and I won't guarantee if all musings on Twitter will be mirrored here

However, if Twitter stops being viable (at least as my primary platform):

I will look to making another platform my primary, which at this point is most likely Tumblr

Said musings will probably also end up here as well, though perhaps less frequently as Tumblr is less stream-of-thought versus Twitter

I say "viable" carefully, because even if the platform doesn't entirely implode catastrophically, my relationship with it will still likely change (overrun with bots, security and safety concerns, instability and crashing, impersonation, overrun with toxic/bigoted users, etc) which may lead to slowing my use, shifting my focus to another platform, or abandoning the platform altogether.

What worlds without biospheres are notable/developed in RTTS? Also are there any nasty stars in the inhabited areas like O and Be types?

Well Dirtball is one! I also need to give it a real name one of these days! It’s the small planet on which Talita, Idrisah, and Gillie live before meeting Bip and rebuilding the Runaway spaceship. It has just enough of an atmosphere clinging to it that the dirt isn’t dangerously abrasive, like on Earth’s moon. Most ground settlements in RttS, (with the exception of some research/vacation/mining settlements) are usually chosen for favorable gravity, solar distance, and solid surfaces. Many of these Goldilocks rocks do get eventually terraformed, buuut... often that takes a lot of time and money. Some settlements don’t bother with anything but essential changes to make the structure easier to install, or maybe just a breathable atmosphere.

Mars, also worth mentioning because it’s a hot topic these days, is PARTIALLY terraformed. The atmosphere has been considerably beefed up, but it’s still too thin for humans to safely breathe for long, kinda like the death zone on Mount Everest. It’s populated by a smattering of plants, bacteria, and invertebrates that can deal with the low oxygen density and water availability. Human settlements on Mars are mostly in roofed valleys and craters that are lightly pressurized and heated (kind of like an airplane cabin).

There’s a couple of unusual stars with settlements, but most sapients preferentially settle around stars with a similar light wavelength to their home star. Ferrets are the ones most likely to settle next to weird O and M types, because they don’t really care what color the light is outside as long as they can harvest enough solar energy to power their subterranean tube maze.

Can slinks do gardening if they are a high intelligence breed? I know they have trouble with some things but it sounds like something that could be done with a little assistance.

Depends on what level of gardening you’re talking about!

Slinks have difficulty remembering sequences more than… Let’s say two or three steps in length. I’m sure that if you were facilitating it, the slink could, for example, be taught to dig little holes, pop seeds in, and then cover them up again. Similarly you could teach them to pull up plants that look a specific way, so long as explaining how that plant actually looked was straight-forward and didn’t take much vocab (“slink pull out prickly short brown plant” is something they’d understand. “slink pull out brown plant with long leaves, short stem, and flowers with five petals” would be forgotten and leave them sad and frustrated).

Overall, I think a slink would be a better garden -helper- than an automatous gardener. The attention span of slinks is pretty short - too short for them to have a long-term plan to properly maintain a garden. Lotta’ steps involved with that! I’m sure they’d really enjoy attempting to give their owner a hand, though. <3
