I just had a dream I thought you'd enjoy; Tomura was the MC of a harem dating sim. I remember there being noncanon characters too, including a dude with just. a giant MMORPG-style sword, for some reason. Dabi would take advantage of Tomura's Complete Obliviousness to be casually affectionate with him like draping himself over the back of his chair, etc. also, they fiNALLY had a doctor in my dream, except of course he's a civilian (natsuo?? never saw wHO he was) & in the harem too

God, I love that my brand is so obvious that you immediately knew I would love this and of completely feral over this. I really have “Shigabowl” printed on my forehead, don’t I? XD

I love this so much. Cute bratty but somehow still oblivious MC Shig, Dabi as the main love interest and probably bad boy archetype (casually affectionate of course hhhh love that for him, get it Dabi), Spinner as the cute best friend Otaku type that share Shig’s interests, Twice as the older affectionate soft big bro type who loves and protects, Aizawa as the Daddy™, Stain as the Darker And Edgier Daddy™, Re Destro as the Daddy With Actual Money™, Overhaul as the rival and tsundere who totally doesn’t like Shig or anything, Miruko as the chaotic but loveable jock (yes I’m jumping on the Shig/Miruko hype train, what about it), and Natsuo as the “prince charming” type who is just so kind and romantic and charismatic (natsuo is best boyfriend, fight me). And of course, the big dude with the sword that you mentioned, because every good harem has at least (1) fantasy character who accidentally showed up in the modern world and falls for the MC. (I’m still mad at Hawks but I’m also still JUST A LITTLE BIT WEAK for shigahawks, so he can be here as the childhood best friend who comes back into Tomura’s life after years of not seeing each other).

This is such … a good concept. I’m really going through it right now, thank you for sharing this with me anon. I owe you my life.

My Top Ten Shigaraki Ships

and why. 

Disclaimer that I view Shigaraki largely as asexual, and so this isn’t a list of like, “top ten characters I think Shigaraki wants to fuck,” and since I’m also not interested in PWP as such, it isn’t a list of the top ten characters I want to see fuck Shigaraki either. It’s more like a list of characters he’s got interesting and compelling dynamics with, and also characters I think could be crushing on him, or otherwise wanting to do him real bad (you can probably tell which are which). It’s also listed primarily by how much I personally enjoy writing and playing with the ships themselves.

Would love to see other’s top ten lists too. That being said, this list is entirely subjective, diverse and correct. Can you guess the order? Follow me under the cut to find out.

10. Overhaul/Shigaraki

This ship should’ve been bigger back when it started, but somehow never caught on, and since their meetings were so brief it leaves little room for speculation on what else they could’ve been up to. There is an interesting dynamic here for Shigaraki’s character, especially highlighted in the negotiation scene, and later during the revenge, but ultimately it’s pretty difficult to write these two as it is quite out of character to imagine them genuinely wanting to even touch each other (in a non-lethal way). Nice aesthetic though.

9. Giran/Shigaraki

From Giran dismissing Shigaraki, his client, as being “too young” and “immature,” to him being willing to be mutilated rather than betray him, the loyalty of this ship is quite something. An arc about rescuing the damsel in distress is also perfect for gamer Shigaraki. The ship hasn’t taken off yet and I don’t feel inclined to write anything for it at the moment, but it’s got a lot of potential, so who knows what the future holds? Could be the one to look out for.

8. Shigaraki/Stain

Another ship which could’ve been something but never took the fandom by storm when they were interacting, as the series was really just starting at that point, and Shigaraki wasn’t very popular. Still, this ship has a lot of potential if Stain’s ever reintroduced into the story, and Shigaraki’s genuine dislike of the guy is pretty amusing. Shigaraki mockingly calling Stain “senpai” and being a brat is another shipping bonus, in my opinion.

7. Shigaraki/Toga/Twice

My one OT3 of this series. Would rank higher if I were better at writing Twice, because I’m really into this idea of the two of them teaming up to (attempt to) seduce and treat leader right. They also look good together, all three of them, and it seems like they’d be good and caring for each other. Also imagining Toga and Twice as obedient but pushy and Shigaraki giving them space to explore is fun. All in all a rare, genuinely positive ship for Shigaraki’s well-being, or so I imagine.

6. Dabi/Shigaraki

This ship is pretty fun to write but it doesn’t have a lot going for it in canon regarding Dabi’s characterisation and their dynamic in general. It’s got a lot of cool fandom stuff, but also some fandom stuff I’m not that into, so I’m a little torn with whether I actually like it or not. Nevertheless, I do have fun with the concept of this ship, and so I’ve dabbled. It’s ultimately a midtier Shigaraki ship, in my opinion. And, nice aesthetic here too, though I think Dabi’s height and ability to dominate or fluster Shigaraki of all people has a tendency to get exaggerated in fanwork.

5. Kurogiri/Shigaraki

One of the most severely underrated ships of this entire series, though thankfully there’s at least some content in the Eastern side of the fandom, KuroShiga leaves a lot up to the imagination. Do they dislike each other and work together just because of All for One? Do they have some kind of bond or is it all just convenience? Is there any genuine care between them, does Shigaraki miss him, does Kurogiri worry about him, for his own sake? We’re still uncovering their history, and with Shigaraki’s backstory being exposed more and more, we can expect new insights into their relationship - I for one am looking forward to learning more, and hopefully finish a fic at last.

4. Noumu/Shigaraki

You’re damn right I stand by this. Shigaraki fucked a Noumu. Deal with it.

3. Shigaraki/Toga

I really enjoy writing this ship because Shigaraki’s bond with Toga is quite unique, I feel. It’s like he’s a little more lenient with her, somehow, and I love this aspect of their relationship. I’m also of the opinion that she’s quite smitten with him, but it’s unlike her other crushes, it’s deeper, more real, and so I’m also really into her feelings towards him, which I think she would act on before truly understanding them herself. It’s also nice to have someone genuinely look out for Shigaraki’s best interest and wanting him to be happy (though not on her own expense either). Her playfulness and tendency to tease him in canon is also just incredibly precious and fun to write. My main proof of love for this ship is that I can’t help but sneak in ShigaToga hints every time I write her, even when the fic’s focused on another pair. It’s just really cute, fun and irresistible.  

2. Shigaraki/Spinner

Ever since chapter 220 came out this ship’s been growing and growing. While Spinner’s loyalty is questioned by a large portion of the fandom, I do think it’s pretty evident that potential ideological disagreements aside, he’s come to sincerely admire Shigaraki, which leads to him feeling very torn. There is a relatability to their backstories, some understanding between their emotions, and also their shared interest in gaming - and opposite thoughts on Stain - which make this ship actually pretty plausible and good. It could be wonderful for character development and they could be an actual healthy evil couple all things considered - in fanon context. I’m very excited to see how it develops, even if it doesn’t go how I want it to (because I mean, evil exes and betrayals are great plot linw too).

1. All for One/Shigaraki

No way around this. All for One is still Shigaraki’s strongest bond. He wouldn’t be who he is without All for One’s influence, and their relationship is already depraved in canon. Yet, I am still convinced that there is mutual genuine care between them, delusional and dangerous as it might be (and unhealthy, to be sure), and I’m all about exploring the worst and best aspects of their bond. It’s wrong, it’s unbearably creepy, and just so much fun to write. All for One’s sick affection and Shigaraki’s co-dependence and tentative trust, and him growing up in that enviroment, is just a gold mine for the imagination. It’s the opposite of cute and healthy and so I love it the most, after all.

Aside from Shigadabi, what ship with Shigaraki you like more?

If you know me, you know I literally ship Shigaraki with everyone because I strongly believe that this boy deserves ALL THE LOVE and ALL THE BOYFRIENDS and I’m gonna give it to him.

As for my favourite other than shigadabi, it kind of depends on my mood to be perfectly honest. A while back, a friend of mine sent me an ask asking me to do my top ten Shigaraki ships and I never got around to do it because the order just kept changing in my head (except shigadabi still number 1).

But I think my most consistent second favourite is Chishig/ Shigahaul. If we stick to the canon, Overhaul x Shigaraki actually makes a lot more sense than Shigaraki x Dabi. I honestly don’t even like Overhaul that much (no hate, he is just interesting or appealing to me) but his relationship with Shig is one of the best things Horikoshi wrote. 

The thing with Overhaul is that he is kind of just a tool for Shigaraki’s (and Deku’s) development. He was created and designed specifically for Shigaraki. The two of them are complete opposites and yet incredibly similar. Shigaraki is messy, unpredictable and chaotic; Overhaul is a clean freak, very organized and ordered. Shigaraki cares a lot about the LOV members, he is genuinely distressed and angry about Magne’s death and Compress’s arm, he mentions Magne’s name a few times after her death and allows Compress to have his own revenge against Overhaul when they attack him. Overhaul literally calls his comrades expendable and refuses to breathe the same air as them, and expect them to die for him at any time.

Despite all that, they still have a lot in common. They’re both two ambitious young men trying to become the next great villains, and bove had a dubious father figure that they would do anything for. I think that’s why their meeting made a lot of sparks. They have fundamentally different philosophies and methods, but they also kind of just  … understand each other, whether they realise it or not. They’re mirror images, opposites and yet the same.

Okay I’m going full meta right now, back to the shipping >:3c

But yeah, I kind of see chishig as a darker shigadabi. Shigaraki and Dabi are also very similar, but while their parallels and connection bring them closer and allow them to work together, the parallels between Chisaki and Shigaraki drive them apart. Chishig is kind of my default “angry thirst” ship if that makes sense? I don’t think their relationship would be very healthy but it’s still fascinating to me, so I use to ship when I want to explore Shigaraki being in a more “toxic” relationship. Also, sworn enemies angrily making out against a wall is just very good you know? I love the idea of Chisaki hating being so attracted to this chaotic brat, while Shigaraki is just very aware of what’s happening and teasing Chisaki like the bitch that he is. Good stuff.

After Chishig, the order kind of varies depending on my mood but I love a lot  SO MANY Shigaraki ships. So in no specific orders:

Spinaraki: what can I say? I’m soft for gaymers boyfriend. Also the idea of Spinner initially being the most reluctant member of the LOV slowly learning to admire, respect and love Shigaraki as he gets to know him is just *chef kiss*

Shigahawks: I don’t care about Hawks that much on his own, but his parallels with Shigaraki got me QUACKING! They have very similar backstories, except one was groomed by the heroes and the other by the villains. I like to think of AUs where Hawks found Shig before AFO after the incident, and the two of them grow up together in the streets. But I love the canon angst even more! These two are fatted to me and Hawks is fatted to die, but can you imagine how good their interactions would be? They went through similar things, so can you imagine the two of them standing and realising that the only person that will ever understand them is the person they have to kill? Bro … 

Shigazawa: okay so this one is like … pure thirst. But!!! It’s based on some very interesting canon stuff! They didn’t interact for long, but oh boy the sparks were there!!! It’s canon that Aizawa is the only hero that Shig admires (hence the popular trope of fanboy Shig) and we saw that the two were pretty equal in combat which is saying something. So yeah this one is really just … look, I live for bratty bottom Shig and so here we are. Aizawa topping the shit out of Shig is WHAT WE DESERVE. Honestly, this ship is just a lot of fun. It also has a lot fo potential for some good from enemies to lovers which is always neat.

Shigadestro: look … if Horikoshi didn’t want me to ship Shigaraki and Re-Destro, he shouldn’t have written Re-Destro as completely obsessed with Shig the moment we met him. Seriously, Shig was just minding his own business for once and Re Destro just woke up one morning like “you know what? shigaraki tomura is my greatest rival and will literally spend all my money and all my men on getting him to me so I can have him submit to my power. Oh actually no wait he is amazinf and powerful and beautiful and I love him.” Like … listen, I have been spreading Sugar Baby Shig propaganda since 1832 and suddenly Hori gives Shig a canon sugar daddy??? What was I supposed to do???

Shigastain: this one is just really intriguing to me. They didn’t interact for long, but a lot happened during their meeting. Although he initially despised him (and pinned him to the floor) Stain admitted that he had misjudged Shigaraki and that he had a lot of potentials and that he was curious to see how he would grow. I think I’m just really want to see them interact again, and see what Stain will think of him now. Also, it’s just hilarious to me how much Shig disrespect Stain, like, this boy is not impressed. Stain just is his clingy ex who won’t stop calling.

Natshig: this one is more recent but it’s just … so fun. Like yes, it’s crack I know, but like I said previously, Shigaraki deserves all the boyfriends. I just love the Jock/prep x Goth/nerd energy they have. Like, Natsuo is that golden boy jock who is secretly pinning after Shig the dramatic theatre kid. Okay, I’m not gonna lie, it’s kind of like a shigadabi villain/civilian AU. BUT I LOVE IT A LOT! Shig deserves a good civilian boyfriend who takes on incognito dates.

These are the ones I enjoy the most right now! It could all change next week, but shigadabi will always be on top ;)
