Kouyou (tinted leaves viewing) spots

Autumn has come to Aizu.

"Kouyou (tinted autumnal leaves viewing)" is one of the popular pastimes in Japan ever since 8th century, lined up with "Ohanami (cherry blossom viewing)" in spring.

The peak period of Kouyou in Aizu is from mid-October to November.

I recommend enjoying Kouyou with hot springs, for there are many nice hot springs surrounded by rich nature here.

Some of the popular Kouyou spots in Aizu are as below;

  Tsuruga-jo Castle

Also known as the scenic spot of cherry blossoms, its over 1000 cherry trees have their leaves tinted into red and yellow. They arrange lighting up at night from 24th Oct.

  Oyakuen Garden

Originally built as the feudal lords' holiday house, there are over 400 plants taken care of now including Japanese maples and Japanese anemone. A very quiet, calm garden.

  Bukeyashiki (Old Samurai House Museum)

They hold chrysanthemum exhibition in every autumn. Over 800 pots of chrysanthemums are lined up around the Samurai House. You can enjoy Kouyou with it.
