Moto-x Hill....
Rooty, muddy, sandy, rocky loose and torn to bits by moto-x riders - this tiny section of the magnificent GR36 has been my nemesis for the 12 years I have lived here, until today!
A combination of ‘good’ conditions, 27.5x3″ rubber, 34x42 gear and the superb handling characteristics of my Jones SWB Plus spaceframe and truss fork worked in my favour today. I managed this terrible 1 km of trail without resorting to dabbing my feet or hike-a-biking. I pedalled all the way to the top! As unimportant as it might seem (in the grand scheme of things) I am stoked!
It also meant that I rode the 38km off road trail without once putting my feet down! - just pedalling all the way. The way it should be! :-)
It’s been a long time since I last posted anything! I was building a fixed wheel bike (which I hope to finish in 2019) but then got distracted by something else altogether as you can see. Yesterday I finished building up a Jones Plus SWB Spaceframe bike! Today I got to ride it for the first time on my local trails in all the Winter gloop we have here. 20km later I roll into my drive with the biggest grin on my face. Wow! What a ride. I’ll write a full review of the bike in the New Year, but suffice to say that it rides like a dream. It was interesting to go back to a rigid trail bike after so many years of riding full suspension and hardtail mountainbikes and to be honest I don’t know why I hadn’t gone down this route earlier. Anyway more on that next year after I’ve had a chance to ride my Jones a little more. In the meantime here’s a quick spec:
- Steel Jones Plus SWB Spaceframe with Chris King Headset - Jones H-Bar Loop - Thomson Elite Stem - Shimano XT M8000 1x11 drive train - Shimano XT M8000 brakes - 180mm discs - Shimano XTR Enduro pedals - DT Swiss 551 27.5″ rims laced to Hope Hubs - WTB Ranger 27.5″ x 3″ Tires - Thomson Elite Seatpost - Gilles Berthoud Galibier leather saddle - Hope quick release seatpost binder

Surf, skid, and skip school kids... the Specialized Turbo S is quite possibly the most fun I’ve had on a bicycle.
The pedal assist motor brings you up to an effortless 28MPH, keeps going for about 40 miles in the city, a set of 700x45mm Armadillo tires absolutely demolish, and the Shimano XT disc brakes stop on a dime. That’s a lot of smiles.
