I haven’t gotten to address this in fic yet, which honestly shame on me for not making a larger effort in my world building but I’ve got some very specific Shimura clan headcanons. They’re pretty much made up entirely by me wholesale
Femininity is highly discouraged
This is mostly extrapolated from my general headcanon that it isn’t so much that Danzo hates women, although he does but he’ll deny it, but he also just really hates kunoichi as a concept at all. I have very specific headcanons about danzo and his dislike of kunoichi and it's because he basically thinks that all shinobi should be shinobi and that kunoichi-type warfare being standardized instead of just certain specializations is a newer thing with the advent of villages
the shimura have slightly different beliefs overall that it isn't so much that shinobi should be men it's that shinobi should be genderless
And unfortunately as in most societies the default of androgyny is still somewhat masculine but leaning pointedly away from feminine in the Shimura’s particular interpretation.
danzo takes his opions on gender expression inherent to the shimura clan to the dickish extreme that only cishet men can
the shimura kind of raise their kids communally
Most commonly this means kids raised by whatever immediate family members are home because parenthood isn't as important as Being A Shinobi
This is partially how Chiyome and Chiyojo have a pretty even split of custody of Moriko, though technically Danzo is her direct guardian, Chiyome her primary caretaker, and Chiyojo her secondary caretaker. She has a few other authorized caretakers such as Kazama, though he hasn’t shown up much yet.
shimura are pretty much an entirely shinobi clan
in part this is because they're small enough that it isn't HARD to do and in part because a lot of the time people who can't/don't want to be ninja are disowned. It's not that there aren't civilian who are shimura born, it's that there are no civillians with the name Shimura because they aren't allowed to keep it.
Continuing on their communal living, the Shimura have heavy clan dues but in turn, pay for nearly all their clans living needs and some of their ninja gear.
Around half or more all Shimura clan paychecks depending on mission rank go to clan accounts and then is distributed back based on need. Genin keep very little of their money because they're viewed as not needing it since the clan provides so much for them, chuunin keep a little more, and jounin keep the most.
Shimura dues pay for standard weapons, standard clothes, standard armor, food, mission rations, etc. This is partially a holdover from the warring clans period where the clan elders were in charge of larger scale commerce and distribution in order to allow for all able bodied shinobi to be prepared for war at all times.
People with jobs that can be used for the clan like medics or smiths and such can actually pay less if they work as personal clan medics or smiths.
if you contribute something non-monetarily you can reduce your dues but otherwise, it's fairly standard percentage per mission based on rank.
For those marrying into the clan they might have to pay a higher rate as like an entrance fee if they don't have their own gear or they want to move into a larger house to accommodate possible family
houses on the clan grounds are distributed via the clan elders
this is specifically how Yasu got screwed over when he moved onto Shimura grounds.
