i wouldnt doubt this was probably asked before or something, but was there any exact reason given for why shiners werent present whatsoever in heist 2? im guessing they were intended to be there but scrapped at some point from what ive heard when playing i was so hyped when hearing about shiners cove and flooded burrow thinking the environment would be all weird and green and shiner-y and that the space shiners teased at the end of heist 1 would show up, only for it to be a whole regular place 💔and thats when it really struck me how confusing it was how completely the series moved on from shiners as much as i loved the new factions in the series, i always found it odd how they had only a Tiny implication that theyre still pests to steambots (especially after heist 1) and that some who-knows-how-old shiners are stuck in vectron tubes, but otherwise dont appear or have any relevance, was there ever any sort of, shiner base or shard or community discussed at any point?? was shiner's cove originally Meant to have something to do with them more than a name?? were they too hard to implement into the plot or gameplay, or just unexpectedly boring?? i think the change of pace is fantastic, but i would have expected them to still hold some relevance in the core system, even if its just offhanded mentions by spacefarers, and im really hoping handy gabby is alive and a respected member of space el machino out there, rosie mightve been a twist villain and every other shiner a bit aggressive at best but handy gabby will always be my goat

and regardless of any details youre able to tell on development plans related to shiners in heist 2, what are your thoughts on what shiners would be doing around or after the game? i like to headcanon theres just Got to be some big comically lawless shard out there with shiners and occasional bot criminals as its only inhabitants

In my mind, there are FOR SURE shiners around somewhere out there during heist times. Who knows, they might've even evolved way beyond what they were during Dig times.

When Heist 1 was finished, I believe there were plans to bring back shiners. There's an ending image featuring one after all. I would've loved them as NPCs you could interact with. One big reason for them not being in the game is that the enemies you scrap fall apart in pieces, which would've been very hard to do with meat bodies and keep our nintendo-family-friendly vibe. The reason there's names referencing them is mostly a nod. I imagine shiners are legendary creatures to most bots during Heist 2. If there's every another Heist game, I would've loved for the shiners to appear again

It’s (checks calendar) Thursday, let's talk about some Shiner headcanons!

These are in no particular order, a lot of them are about health and biology

Evolution is in no way a map to creating a perfect being, to many the modern Shiner is a downgrade from Humans who spend many thousands of years as the dominant species on the planet.

They are actually far more complex than Steambots give them credit for, sure they are more violent but are far more adaptable to toxic environments that would kill a human within hours

-Shiner’s don’t always have pale skin but do have issues handling with UV rays, while they won’t get skin cancers burns will still hurt a lot and leave permanent scarring which is why they prefer to live underground

-Shiner’s are basically immune to radiation. Along with cancers, and many diseases, they have the immune systems of Gods, however, lead and mercury poising is a huge problem in their community

-Shiner’s have eight to ten sets of teeth throughout their lives, this helps make up for the fact their teeth are quite brittle and with rot/break much easier than human teeth

-Shiner’s blood clots really quickly and this helps them survive the loss of limbs and other traumatic injuries much easier

-Shiner’s have minor limb regeneration abilities though this can lead to them growing extra fingers and toes throughout their lives.

-This ability also can lead to being born with or growing extra limbs, it’s about as common as being born as red hair

-They are actually really intelligent, especially around explosives and building materials however because of their emotional instability completing projects and organizing are far more difficult for them

-It also doesn’t help many of their communities have no formal education system

-Because of their mental problems and deformities, there is no real concept of disability, some shiners can do stuff, some can’t, usually they just stick to doing what they’re best at anyway

-communities of shiners are rarely higher than fifty people, any more and they start attacking each other or break off

-Food and space are the number one thing they fight over

-Often their leaders are picked not based on how strong, smart or even inspiring, they are picked based on if they’re funny and able to defuse conflict
