On a Deadline | College AU

Mimi scrunched her face in both concentration and irritation while staring at her laptop. She had the academic database pulled up on the screen and was having little luck with it, as always. She took a deep breath and sat back in her seat, looking around the library to find that the section she was in had emptied out during her time of working on the paper. All she needed was two internet and two book sources to finish it and she always had the worst time with figuring out just the right things to put into the search engine.

She picked up her phone to check and see if she had received a reply from Hikari for help. She knew most of her other friends didn't have much more luck than she when it came to using the right terms (besides Miyako and Koushiro, who were both busy). Hikari though, seemed to be really good at using the database.

And so it was Christmas. A quiet morning in a quiet day of an otherwise plain Thursday. Takeru had his share of breakfast and opened gifts with his mother. In a holiday vastly considered for family and even romantics, there wasn’t much he could do. Aside from changing how he’d always spent it.Takeru hesitated, but at last it may be high time he changed. Just this once. Just one attempt to make an initiative as opposed to constantly shrouding his own sentiments. So he pulled out his cellphone, took a deep breath, and began typing out a message until there was a soft knock at the door. "Eh?" He questioned softly before opening the door. "Hikari-Chan! Merry Christmas to you too! I was just about to ask for you to come over.... I-uh, got you something".

”Burnt?” Miyako echoed awkwardly, fidgeting with strands of her hair. Nervously, she glanced over at the oven and frowned. Then it wasn’t just her imagination if Hikari-chan could smell it, too; the holiday sugar cookies she had tried to bake wound up being an absolute failure.

She laughed in an over-exaggerated fashion – ringing her hands out in front of her. ”You mean that’s not how they’re supposed to smell?” she tried pathetically, but her voice had faltered to a groan halfway through the sentence. Giving a defeated sigh, she crossed over to the oven and switched it off. ”That’s the last time I buy prepackaged cookie dough,” she grumbled, turning on the fan above the stove before returning to Hikari.

”Let’s try again later, okay? We’ll make homemade cookies instead.” Even though she was disappointed that the first batch didn’t turn out right, she should have known better than to take a shortcut with something as delicate as baking. ”Well! I guess I need to tackle those burnt cookies!” She was determined to stare her failure in the face. ”You might want to evacuate in case it gets too Smokey when I open the oven.”

"Mimi, are you okay? You've been in your room for the whole day." She asked, knocking on the door of the locked room. She was concerned, it wasn't healthy to stay in one place for too long.

Oh no, it was Hikari.

"No, I'm not!" Mimi blurted. Shoot she should have said she was fine. Then again, Hikari was nice enough to come and see what was wrong. Could she face Hikari right now? It's not like she had much of a choice. She was right outside her door.
