The surviving family heirloom Christmas ornaments are too precious to risk putting on the tree, so I set them out in a bowl instead.

It’s uncanny how, all these years later, they perfectly match the colors in the room.

Or is it? Did that turquoise color scheme imprint itself on my childhood brain and find a way to manifest itself when I grew up?
