1. Are you named after anyone?

I’m named for Bucky Barnes. You know, that one guy who’s dating that other guy who jumps out of planes without a parachute and stuff.

2. When was the last time you cried?

3. Do you have kids?

Three! Back in 2016, I got a kitten named Vastra. She was only five weeks old and the cutest little girl ever. She beeps.

Then we moved in with @leavesdancing, who is Cat Mom, so we got her a kitten named Ilya. Look how tiny he is!

And in just two days (today is Thursday, right?) we’re getting a new baby named Xena! She’s a borzoi from @spryfeatborzoi, so I’m not sure if she’s a dog or cat, but she sure is pretty, isn’t she?

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

I love sarcasm! That’s a type of cheese, right? I love cheese!

I always check to see if they look different upside-down.

Beautiful.

Everybody needs a happy ending. And a  puppy. Puppies are awesome.

I have two special talents! First, I’m a service dog, so I help Mom with her PTSD and anxiety.

9. Where were you born?

Night Eyes Kennels, California. But I like it here on the east coast, because SNOW!

10. What are your hobbies?

Cats, chasing my tail, and dramatically flopping.

I already said I take care of Mom, but I also take care of @leavesdancing (Cat Mom) and Christina (Other Dog Mom)!

12. What sports do you play/have you played?

Writing is a sport, right? I co-write fic and books with Mom. Writer’s block sucks.

13. How tall are you?

I’m 27 1/2″ tall at the withers, but if I try real hard, I can shrink down to about six inches.

15. Dream job?

I want to be a snow dog. That’s like a sled dog, only it involves more sleeping in snow, eating snow, and generally snow.

1. Are you named after anyone?

Funny story: I’m named for a person in the Torah. My mother deliberately spelled my name in a non-biblical way. My Jewish grandmother refused to acknowledge that spelling, and until the point in time she lost the ability to write, she always spelled my name wrong on purpose. Sigh. 

2. When was the last time you cried?

Oh lord, I cry all the time at things when I’m tired. And I’m tired. So, this morning when I heard about the people who had died in the California wildfire in Paradise, personal stories of people lost in the CA bar shooting, and other horrible world news. 

3. Do you have kids?

Yes, three stepkids. All of them are under orders to call me their wicked stepmother. 

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

Nope. Never. I’m a literal bitch. ;) 5. What’s the first thing you notice about people?

Hard to say, but I think their personality (extrovert vs. introvert)? 

6. What’s your eye color?

Brown/Hazel. 7. Scary movie or happy ending?

I hate scary movies. Give me FLUFF. 8. Any special talents?

I can copyedit the hell outta things. And read really, really fast. And roller derby. And I know rocks and fossils.

Hahahahaha you’ll all laugh, but this is the truth and the strangest thing I do for hoots and giggles. Strategic planning for not-for-profits. I also ski if I can. And roller derby. Did I mention that yet lol

Three rotten, no-good overlords, um, I mean, cats.  12. What sports do you play/have you played?

Mainly things that don’t require eye/hand coordination: swimming, soccer, an attempt at volleyball, riding, and roller derby.  13. How tall are you?

5′ 4″ 14. Favorite subject in school?

Earth Science and Biology and English and then Physics snuck in there, too. Oh, and History. And Art History. I’d say everything but math except I love stats. 

*throws hands in the air* don’t make me choose thank goodness for liberal arts schools where I took 16 classes for my major and like 12 for my minor and a ton of electives yay!

15. Dream job?

Probably Olympic-level equestrian. True story: I trained with a three-time Olympic medalist equestrian when I was young, but my family could not afford the horse lifestyle (yeah, so not rich), so I had to give it up. Either that or being Indiana Jones, but for fossils. <3

Rec: Once in a while, amidst all the bed sharing, fake boyfriends, and soulmate marks (and don’t get me wrong, you can pry all of those tropes from my cold, dead hands) a fic like this will come along. Completely original and unique, with hypnotic prose and a delicacy of execution that kept me spellbound throughout.

This is slightly AU as explained in the summary and tags, and centers on Eurus and her motivations for invading John and Sherlock’s life in her various guises. The basis is fascinating, bordering on creepy, and could be headcanoned as what underlay Eurus’s experiments on Shutter Island Sherrinford, although here, her impulses are pointed in a slightly different direction. Or were they perhaps the same?

In addition to the Eurus angle, this is a lovely Johnlock story of coming to terms and healing, the power of emotion, and family bonds.

New installments of Toasty’s Dubious Adventures in Cooking! This time around: Fettuccini Alfredo with asparagus & mushrooms (above), and more mushroom garlic burgers (not pictured).

I recently unsubscribed from PeachDish. I felt like I’d learned a lot, but I wasn’t reliably making all the recipes within a week, and they all were a bit too complicated. Plus, they stopped marking which ones were safe for the gluten-intolerant (i’m guessing because they don’t have a strict gluten-free kitchen, and didn’t want to mislead celiac folks).

One of the first things I did was try to replicate the PeachDish mushroom garlic burger patties – but in bulk. They were one of my faves of everything I made, but they were a bit of a pain when I was only making two of them (and also making a side dish). I figured I could be more efficient if I could cook 6-8 of them at once, freeze them, and use them over time in various dishes.

The plan went well, except that I could only find much smaller or much larger amounts of the ingredients than I’d intended. And I underestimated how much the large sizes would make. So I ended up making ~20 patties. Oops/yum. It took quite a while, but not so much longer than making just a few would have. I’ve eaten about 4 of them so far, and they are delish, and excellent to put in stir fries or omelets.

Tonight I tried a recipe from @shinysherlock for fettuccini Alfredo. It used to be a favorite of mine, but since cutting gluten out of my diet, I haven’t had it much (most restaurants don’t have gf pasta, and most Alfredo sauce also contains wheat flour). But I recently discovered brown rice pasta, and Shiny sent me a sauce recipe consisting just of butter, cream, and parmesan. So I boiled some noodles and meanwhile sauteed some veggies (pre-cut!! by the grocery store! such a time and effort saver!) in butter. The noodles took longer to cook than I expected (because I didn’t read the directions ahead of time), so the recipe took ~30 min… I think I could cut it down to 20– not that 30 isn’t already way better than I’d been managing – and cleanup was quick and simple, too.

The cats were not interested in the noodle dish, but are interested when I defrost the burgers. (Although they can’t have any, because garlic… But they don’t actually like people food anyway; they just like smelling it and meowing.) But they should have been interested in both, because both are really yummy!
