The view out of the Ship Tavern in Holborn, London
I had not originally intended this as my photo of the day. In the early evening I happened to be sat in the Ship Tavern, one of my favourite London pubs and I really liked the signs in the narrow alleyway outside when viewed with the gold leaf effect lettering on the pub window.
There were other ways by which money was to be obtained during the summer season; which were from the company who used to come down to the white bait parties at the Ship and other taverns. There were many other boys who frequented the beach, besides me; and we used to stand under the windows, and attract attention by every means in our power, so as to induce the company to throw us halfpence to scramble for.
