You know, one thing I’d like to say about the ship war is that I wish there weren’t so many personal attacks or genuine hostility between people out of something as small as a fictional pairing.
Yes, I understand that we all have our own ideal outcome and we’d all like to see our vision come to life but it’s just not the most important thing in the world. Like, even if the author doesn’t go in the direction you wanted, there will be endless fics and fan art that can more than make up for it.
Whether we like it or not, it’s really not in any of our hands. And while it’s healthy to have respectful disagreements from time to time, I think it’s really gotten to a strange and awkward point where we are fighting over silly things.
At its core, this is all a matter of preference and we will never reach a perfect consensus on it because different people like different things. It’s completely valid for someone to like tropes like forbidden love or fated mates or friends to lovers or whatever works for them. It’s okay to have preferences, what is not okay is harassing people to change theirs.
Additionally, there’s no reason to deny canon. Sure, interpretations will always vary but objectively speaking, there is a couple that has more groundwork laid than others do and it can indicate that it’s going to be endgame. Does that mean that you need to like it? No! Does it mean you shouldn’t be attacking people who do like it? Yeah.
If we were to consider these simple facts, we would be able to have a peaceful fandom where people are free to really enjoy themselves. As of right now, we’re all in suspense and the waiting has been hell so I understand how things are heated but I think we need to stop and realize that there’s real people behind the screen and it’s wrong to take your anger out on them.
Anyway, it’s important to note that this post is meant for people who have been spreading unnecessary hate on here--there’s many great people too, who have never been disrespectful or unkind in any way and this is in no way addressed to them. I appreciate y’all so much, so please don’t take this in any negative way.
