The time had come for Shirara, Dedede's mother, an extroverted penguin with great magic and the protector of the crystal that guarded the penguins' home.

She found Mark unconscious and cared for him until he recovered, helping him with the story they told about when he decided to stay there and creating the penguin disguise.

When he disappeared, Dedede set out to find him, but his work made it impossible, as it would leave his people's crystal unprotected. So he waited until he found and trained someone compatible with the crystal, but before that could happen, the crystal's amplifiers began to malfunction until his village succumbed to the forces that were waiting for the right moment.

She died on the planet where the Puffs lived until the events of Star Alieas, after escaping through a portal Mark created. With her last breaths, she asked that if they found her son Dedede, they give him Mark's gem as the one she would carry with her, and tell him that she would have liked to find him herself, but that she would always be with him.

As a body mage, she can use any type of magic thanks to her singing, although she specializes in water and ice magic.
