This one is from the Modern AU @sunny374940, @lycheecatee, & I have been playing around with (AKA 'Yellow Bike' or 'Shithead' AU, depending on the day), and this WIP in particular goes out to Rose and her fiery Queenie. If you're not familiar with Ayla's Sad Girl Warden pal, I strongly encourage you to check out the awesome 'Queenie Yap Post' Rose released into the wild today!

The snippet below is from Modern Em x Ayla's meet-cute, where Ayla's roomies (okay...Queenie mostly 🤣) have decided to interrogate their new pal Emmrich.

Emmrich, a man who has already quite comfortably accepted his fate
He let out an audible sigh as Ayla crooned another ridiculously seductive song with Rook onstage. In slight disbelief himself at the way his heart fluttered throughout their final performance of the night.

"Having a nice time??"
Emmrich startled out of all his staring and turned to find a very short elven woman cackling at him.
"Ayla sure seems to be," she snorted before he could answer.
Ah, that's right, Tal had introduced her earlier. One of Ayla's roommates—'Queenie', he recalled—trying not to flinch as she studied him while taking a sip of her comically large margarita.
Well, Emmrich assumed that's what she was doing. It was rather hard to tell.
…Why on earth was she wearing sunglasses?
"I'm having a wonderful time," he replied with a pleased hum.
"So are you gonna take her home with you tonight, Sir Scientist?"
Emmrich choked on his drink. "Pardon?"
"Ayla," she said, nodding to the stage with a smirk. "Your eyes practically have little hearts in them," she quipped. "Like that cartoon with the wolf or whatever the hell. Literally seconds away from getting up on this table and howling at her ass."
His mouth fell open, and Emmrich found himself at a loss for words. Because he couldn't deny that Queenie's held a fair amount of truth to them.
"Aw, babe—you're scaring him."
Queenie's very put-together girlfriend made her way over—to rescue him, Emmrich hoped—helping herself to the seat next to him and dragging the shorter woman down onto her lap.
"Nevie, that's the fucking point!" Queenie grumbled, pouting at Neve over the top of her sunglasses, the latter of whom appeared to have a smirk forming at the corner of her lips despite trying to keep a stern expression on her face. And to Emmrich's dismay, it came out in full force when Queenie returned her attention to him.
"Well?? Are you gonna get nasty with her tonight, or what?"
He felt his cheeks warm and took a sip of his drink. "While your friend is extraordinarily lovely, I find that I'm not in the habit of…'getting nasty' with someone before getting to know them first. Over dinner, at the very least."
Emmrich nervously took a much larger gulp of his brandy than he meant to in the silence that followed, but he felt himself relax somewhat when Neve's face softened. "Well, aren't you just a proper gentleman?" she murmured, giving him a nod of approval.
But that smirk never once left her lips.
Queenie, on the other hand, had dissolved into a fit of hysterical giggling, only stopping when Neve gently elbowed her in the side.
He raised an eyebrow. "…Dare I even ask?"
She gave him a pitying look. "Oh, Sir Scientist—she's gonna eat you alive."
Queenie went back to cackling at him, and Emmrich glanced towards the woman in question as she continued to sing onstage.

Their eyes met, and she winked at him.

As I'm sure you can imagine, Queenie & Ayla are quite the chaotic duo lmao. But damn, can they throw a house party! Thankfully, Varric (their landlord) doesn't mind!! 🤣

I’ve decided to make this post so should anyone want to know more about her - her personality, her backstory, who she is and why she exists. They can!! Mourn Watch Week 2026
Day 5- Eternal Gold | Memorial Gardens
Every member of the Mourn Watch is adorned with gold throughout their lives. Many special occasions warrant the gifting of such pieces- each Watcher will be gifted something unique to them.
Brynrith Lunarel- initially adopted under the house of Ingellvar- was an orphan within the Grand Necropolis. Having no family ties in Nevarra, she was gifted her first piece of gold at eighteen by Vorgoth and Myrna. This remained her only piece until she began the professional, and later romantic, relationship with Emmrich Volkarin.

Hehehe I’ve actually been thinking about this one a lot recently because they got together on my Tomodachi Life Island 😂! Thank you for the ask @kogarashi-art :D!!
Queenie/Rana
Hehe I really really like this one :D!! Okay I actually have many thoughts for how this one might begin - but for the sake of this post I’m just go with my favourite 😂!!
I’m actually really liking the thought of them “meeting” before Queenie becomes a Grey Warden 👀. There’s a local tavern Rana sometimes goes to when she’s on patrol. She just goes there for a pub feed and a drink, she’s not really into socialising with the barmaids or playing games with the other patrons. She does like people watching though. She’s probably noticed Queenie a few times and thought nothing of her. Another barmaid in cheap jewellery living among the more influential figures in society. Maybe Rana can sense the mage blood, but she hasn’t been a Templar for long so maybe not. Either way, she’s not expecting to one day be called in while on patrol for the murder of a noble of all things. She’s certainly not expecting the perpetrator to be the little blonde elven woman who pours her ale. Of course she doesn’t have time to dwell on it as she’s swiftly conscripted into the Grey Wardens. Although, Rana never forgets her.
They meet again in VG. She’s older, her hair has grown, her features have matured a bit more - but that doesn’t stop Rana from recognising her. Things play out as normal, Rana learns she carries herself with confidence (and a “twinge” of vanity), she learns she’s loyal to no one but her own moral compass, she learns she likes dirty jokes, she grew up in Ferelden’s circle, she’s generous to her friends and loves dancing. Rana likes her, and Queenie likes her too. Even though she was a Templar, it’s not like she was one of the ones who were going to hurt her…right?
This is where I think the main point of contention is. Rana is one of the few associated with the order whom Queenie didn’t want to impulsively set on fire and run away from. However, I reckon as they got closer, Rana wouldn’t be able to keep it a secret - which obviously diminishes Queenie’s viewpoint of her. Assuming their…mutual attraction (and maybe hookup/flirting) happens during VG - I think this would make them break up. HOWEVER, after Bellara dies (refuses the calling) I think Queenie does gain a new perspective on things (if the alternative was being a Grey Warden…maybe the gallows WOULD have been better). A messed up one sure, but it’s enough for her to reach out again and resume their relationship.
Queenie likes what Rana does. She likes her attitude and their moral compasses align quite nicely I feel. Overall - I reckon if things were a bit different - things could 100% work 🙂↕️!!

Queenie/Isabela
Queenie and Isabela are probably meeting during the events of VG right 👀? I think even in my canon worldstate Queenie is pretty enraptured with her when she meets the Lords of Fortune 😂. They have the same sense of humour, expensive taste, cheeky personality. What’s not to love?! I don’t think it would be too out of character to say Isabela is drawn to her for the same reasons 🤭
I can see it playing out where Queenie ✨enchants✨ Bela enough that they hookup? Things just kind of escalate from there 👉👈🙂↕️🩷? Just a real quick sidequest from stopping Solas. I’m tempted to say it’s similar to Hawke’s romance - but also a little hesitant because it’s a completely different context? What’s Isabela’s relationship with romance and sex 20 years down the line? Queenie isn’t one to push when something is established to be casual - but I think Isabela would be one of those rarer cases where she’d actually really want something more romantic 🤔.
Queenie isn’t big on authority figures, but it’s not like Isabela is a First Warden or Grand Templar or anything. If anything, she’s probably the least-authoritativy authoritative figure - and I think Queenie loveeees that 😍! What other opportunity is she going to get where she’s (1) in a position of power (2) that “power” aligns with her moral code and (3) all she needs to do is smooch the pretty woman? Honestly just being a LOF is a dream situation for her. I remember talking about it before, but the Lords would probably be the Veilguard faction she’d be happiest in. She gets to wear pretty jewellery and flashy clothes all the time and no rules about how she can use her magic 😍? Plus - basically now a pirate princess 👀👉👈?
Queenie can’t promise she’ll be able to help Isabela with her elven - but I don’t think she’d mind 😉
Queenie/Vivienne
This one is definitely a bit more rocky (also a bit tricky for me to answer - please not it’s been a very long time since I last played Inquisition 😣). Vivienne is Grand Enchanter and pro-circle and Queenie…is very not that. There is so much to admire about Vivienne, her role in court politics despite being a mage, her views on mage politics in generally are just so interesting 😫 (Vivienne I love you). Unfortunately Queenie gets none of that. The mere suggestion of reestablishing the circle gets her LIVID. She loves Vivienne’s elegance, her looks, the way she speaks, her demeanour - all things she’s admired and found beautiful since she was a girl. The circle stuff would be too much for her though. Queenie doesn’t see nuance. She sees someone trapping her, telling her what to do. She just can’t get out of that dichotomous thinking.
In general, I definitely think it’s a bit of a personality mismatch. While Queenie loves the elegance and her way of speaking, I think she needs someone she can laugh about dirty jokes with (or at least someone who won’t get cross with her for making them). On Vivienne’s side…Queenie has absolutely no manners in the slightest. She’s only slightly better than Sera. Sure she might have her moments, but she’s still just too much.
ON THE OTHER HAND. Queenie looooooooooves being pampered. She is absolutely shit at the politics, but she would SO enjoy being that high up on the political ladder. She would have such fantastic spa days with Viv. Plus - there’s something a bit exciting about being the Grand Enchanter’s mistress.
Ultimately…maybe frienemies 🤔?
