Family Visit
My Panamanian host family came to visit me - after a couple of years without seeing them, we’ve been reunited! And both sets of parents have finally met!
Last night, after my family arrived we decided to go out to dinner to celebrate their arrival! There’s this new restaurant in one of our favorite downtown areas, and it sponsors artists to come do their art in the restaurant while everyone eats - the walls are filled with artists work for sale. I think its a great way to attract people to the restaurant and also support local artist (my mom’s an artist so that’s always really important to me)! Not to mention the food was AMAZING.
Left to right: Carlos (Papá), Charlyn (hermana), me, Roger (Dad), Magda (Mamá), Pamela (Mom).
It’s also great because having them here is giving me the opportunity to visit parts of my area I haven’t been to in years, many of them since elementary school. I have a reason to be a tourist in my own city!
George Washington’s Mount Vernon
For day 1 we decided to go to Mount Vernon, George Washington’s home -somewhere I remember coming so many times when I was younger but I hadn't been in years! I’m realizing I can appreciate the information and the places so much more now that I’m older, it’s an entirely new experience. I can’t wait for all of the touristy things we do around D.C. this week that I also haven’t done in years.
