#ShitAbledPeopleSay. I originally posted last night while being panic about what would happen if my husband died (mostly worried about finances and that I don’t have any family or friends) and this is the message I got. I’m so tired.

[ID: an online conversation on the app called Whisper. The conversation reads as follows:

Person 1: “I know the perfect person to lock in to take care of you if he does pass away. And I’m saying this not to be rude, but in a genuine, honest and most encouraging answer that I can give. And you don’t have to look any further than yourself. No one can take care of you better than yourself. You get to experience it and learn about yourself and your ability to grow and heal and no one will be able to take that freedom from you. Of course it’s okay to develop friendships along the way and find kindred spirits to guide you through your hardships too. There’s nothing wrong with it. Just be”

Me: “I’m disabled.”

Person 1: “Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t know. I was hoping to be encouraging, not seem rude.”

Generally, abled people just don't get it. 😒 Even when you talk yourself blue in the face trying to teach them, they will argue with you rather than listen. Can't be wrong.

I *was* aware that there are bikes etc designed for disabled people before you told me. I still don't think we should ban cars. No, I do not want to try a bike for disabled people, I don't have any spoons, can't balance, and am in too much pain. Getting out in the weather makes me horribly sick. I live too far from a decent-sized town to get my groceries and doctor visits on a bike, anyway. There is not a biking answer for all disabled and ill people, sorry, not all of us can give up cars or have access to public transportation or, with compromised immune systems and cognitive/mental health issues, could use it. -_-
