Ugh, people like that are ridic. <3
I honestly don't know why they keep saying it. It's not relevant. Like, my mom was talking about my cousin, who met her (ex)boyfriend in a bar, and my aunt goes, "Well, at least she didn't meet him on the internet."
Huh? What does it matter? He was a nice guy, they dated for a couple of years, we all liked him. Why is meeting a stranger on the internet worse than meeting a stranger in a bar?
That's nothing compared to my other aunt, though, who had a whole rant about some TV show she watches where people meet in person the people they've been talking to online and then usually find out that the other person has been lying about something (usually their appearance) and then they feel all hurt and betrayed, and apparently this means that you can't ever make lasting friends/relationships with people online, because the internet is entirely populated with ugly, lying losers. (Plus, she somehow managed to work in a heckton of cissexism and misgendered a trans man. Lovely, huh?)
And while we're on the subject of relatives saying things that make me want to scream, my grandma was talking the other day about how "people who choose not to have children are making a huge mistake," and my cousin and his wife agreed with her, and then went on to talk about how getting married "fulfills" you and ARGH MAKE IT STOP.
Sorry for dumping on you, I needed to vent. *hugs*
