Question: I’m Jewish, what’s the new lingo to replace judeo-Christian or abrahamic religions when referring to Jews, Christians, and Muslims? I’ve been hearing that Abrahamic is no longer being used. Why is that, if clearly referring to all three?

So talking about all three at once is sort of the problem? Like unless you’re in a history of religion class there’s almost no reason to be referring to all three at once bc there’s not much that is cohesive about the three beyond that. It’s really just monotheism and even that is debatable. All three are very different in terms of ethos, practice, relation to god, culture, history, etc. Another problem with “Abrahamic” is even more salient for “Judeo-Christian”– you’re directly comparing and lumping together oppressed peoples with their persecutors. “Judeo-Christian” is also such a nonsense comparison, the direct comparison of Judaism and Christianity in some ways holds even less water than lumping all three together. I use this example a lot but the number of times I’ve heard people say things like “Judeo-Christian concepts like original sin and hell”.... When like... neither of those are Jewish... People using either term are 99% of the time making a comment that really only applies to one group but pretending they’re being inclusive or something? When really they’re just incorrect.
Saving the best for last, “Judeo-Christian” is also just like. originally a fucked up piece of 20th century exclusionary anti-communist propaganda, apparently?
All this to say, I’ve been v happy to see the spn lexicon switch to “THEE biblical _____”.
TLDR Yes, there are times when it’s technically correct to use “Abrahamic religions” but they are incredibly rare and mostly when I see someone use it all I hear is “I don’t know what I’m talking about”. Never use “Judeo-Christian”.
