I can't believe I didn't notice it the first time. So, I've said Todd reminds me of Shawn Spencer from Psych? Well, in Episode 8, he briefly pretends to be psychic and closes his eyes and hold up his hand the exact way Shawn does. At least, I'm pretty sure he does. It's been a while since I've seen it.

One of the things I find interesting about So Help Me Todd is how it showcases privilege. There is the obvious fact that screw-up Todd is able to stay out of legal trouble because he has a good lawyer on, in his own words, “permanent retainer”, but Margaret actually leans on her family a lot too. Many of her cases are solved because she has on-demand access to both a medical doctor and a local journalist, both very useful and prestigious positions. It’s subtle, but it really shows how important personal connections are in our society.
