In the club and we're bedroom dancing and our pulses sync with the strobing neon lights and I can't remember this morning's breakfast and the room is perfumed with salt and restless impulse

In the bathroom and we're crowding into the stall tipsy-toed and we're laughing over spilled drinks and secrets and I glimpse a wide-eyed reflection in the mirror instead of smudged lipstick and the 808 seeps through the hum of slurred conversation

In the alley and we're curbside, sharing our last cigarette and we're declaring love singing the song we came to dance to and I'm trying to pause the time as it changes on my phone and headlights wash over our aching feet as we hug goodnight

In the train and I'm starry-eyed studying halos along the street and the whiskey-breathed man is reciting poetry and I remember the warmth of my breakfast tea and the clouded sky has never held me like this

I think it's unfair that every time I get my blood pressure taken they say it's "a little high" in the tone of voice that means that they're trying not to just say "high" when it's NOT MY FAULT that blood pressure is literally only ever taken in the MOST STRESSFUL SITUATIONS IMAGINABLE
