Shoppingtown Mall- Dewitt, NY
a lovely mall back home that has sadly lost almost all of its stores over the past few years. i’ve been going here since i was a kid and so in that time i’ve been able to watch its slow decline. once full of big brand names, eventually it became host only to local startups (mostly karate studios) or businesses that were going under. even the public library left at some point, but i wasn’t ready to call it dead until the laser tag/arcade place and the comic store went out of business. it still hosts some smaller companies (like my friends at the open hand theatre, god bless em) but the only anchors left are the movie theater and a sears. i don’t know for sure but i’d guess it started going down when nearby Destiny USA finished its renovations and became a huge tourist attraction. the owners are talking about ways to renovate Shoppingtown and revitalize it, but sadly it will never be what it was.
