mori's extremely specific banana fish headcanons that are canon only in my fic and nowhere else. literally nowhere
disclaimer: i think about this story like far, far too much and these are all not reeealy based on canon im just a #thotdaughter with internet access and a penchant for angst.
griffin taught ash to shoot. there's a big gun culture in rural areas where im from - shoot to eat. take down a deer and you'll have it all winter. i like to imagine griff taking one of jim's shotguns down from the wall (because there's no way in hell that man keeps them locked up. gun safety??? under jim callenreese's roof????? nay.) and kneeling behind little ash in the field out back, keeping the butt nestled into his shoulder. ash only realized how bad the recoil was when he shot a man the first time himself.
shorter's dad was this crazy, larger-than-life community figure. im talking family man to end all family man, actually good at teaching multiplication. i think his mom was a singer and used to fill their little house with music on sunday mornings so everyone knew it was time to clean. she had a little radio and the oldies station and everyone in the neighborhood knew the Wongs - their open door, their living room, the faded yellow fold-out menus of their restaurant. i imagine him as this tall, tanned, strong guy - physically intimidating, but kind. their mom had short hair and a quick temper but always had a listening ear for her kids. they had to call the kids in to identify the bodies. seeing his dad on a morgue slab was the worst day of shorter's life. none of it made sense. how do you just lose all of that? where does it go? where does it go?
nadia was an honor student before everything happened. she was sixteen, straight A's, honor roll, head of some fancy science club. she kept her hair long and took nearly obsessive care of it - oiling it every week, her mom's long fingers kneading the tension out of her scalp, jazz on the radio. she kept it braided to sleep and wore it down every day at school, even when it was impractical. but when their parents died and she was suddenly taking care of shorter and keeping the restaurant running and - she had to drop out of school. she cut her hair short, pretending it didn't bother her when people said how much she looked like her mother. no sense keeping it long when you're cooking all day. no sense investing in your appearance when the main person who'll be seeing you is your brat of a brother. Why bother? Why bother?
