Sato Shori as a house-husband
Ideal schedule of house-husband Shori:
6:00AM-7:30AM: Wake up, prepare bento, make breakfast, dress up 7:30AM-8:30AM: See off children 8:30AM-12:00PM: Tidy up, do laundry, cleaning 12:00PM-15:00PM: Lunch, watch movies 15:00PM-16:00PM: Pick up children 16:00PM-18:00PM: Grocery shopping for dinner 18:00PM-19:00PM: Prepare dinner 19:00PM-20:00PM: Dinner with family 20:00PM-21:00PM: Bathe children 21:00PM-23:00PM: Time to talk with my wife 23:00PM-6:00AM: Sleep
Do you have a specific way of doing housework? Shori: I don’t do anything special! I just do it normally. I don’t want to spend more time than necessary doing such things~. Of course I don’t like it being dirty but isn’t that just natural? Now that I think about it (laughing)... When doing laundry I feel like after using a dryer it smells kind of burnt, so I think it’s okay to use more fabric softener.
In Sexy Zone, who do you think would make the best house-husband? Shori: Matsushima Sou. I guess it’s Matsushima. When he came over to hang out at my house, before I knew it he started doing my laundry and even prepared breakfast for me. For breakfast he made sunny-side up fried eggs, sausages and miso soup. I didn’t do anything (laughing). It seemed like it was completely normal for him!
Sato Shori tried taking care of a 14-month-old boy. He has shown us he can be a wonderful house-husband, however when we talked to him...
Shori: Becoming a house-husband...that would be impossible for me! If I get married someday, of course I would like to help my wife as much as I can but if only my wife worked outside and let’s say I quit my job completely, I don’t plan on doing that. Even if it’s in a delusional world. Therefore even if I listen to a story about me being a house-husband, that episode won’t happen for real (laughing). When I have children, I might take something like maternity leave or childcare leave and be absent from work but I don’t think I would call that being a house-husband. There are some male staff around me who drop their children off at kindergarten and pick them up again but I heard they have to wake up very early in the morning to do so. Living a mother’s role in our society, I think those fathers are really amazing. I still feel too overwhelmed even with my work alone.
Cleaning, doing laundry, is there anything particular you like doing at home?
Shori: For me, I don’t really like doing housework too much. “It’s something that has to be done in life”, that’s what I think about it. Sooometimes I like cooking, or the look of a clean room after you finish cleaning, it feels like it can be a little bit “fun” to do those things, however that is only sometimes. Basically doing housework isn’t a terrible thing after all? If I’m by myself it doesn’t matter if I’m slow (while doing housework) but when it becomes normal to take care of a family, I wonder if (my wife) will tell me if we become troublesome to each other. Once again I think that’s an amazing thing. I agree on one thing though, I don’t want to forget to thank her if she does the housework. However, just because I haven’t cooked much, it doesn’t mean that there is no possibility that I might be good at it if I tried. That field is still unknown to me. But since I can’t do two things at the same time, I easily panic and burn whatever I’m frying in a pan, so my efficiency seems to be very bad (laughing). Although Shori was happily playing with our baby, we were surprised he was struggling!?
Shori: Because I’m never around babies or small children I don’t know how to entertain them at all. If I become a father, I will ask my own parents to teach me various things, study books and look up things online. Maybe I’ll even go take classes on child care. I also thought of a house-husband’s one day schedule but surely that one day will pass in the blink of an eye. It’s not like I can just say I want some time for myself. Ehh, I would also need fellow mama friends, right!? I guess I would be bad at handling that... Especially if you’re the only guy among all the mamas, that’s impossible! But for the sake of collecting information I would try my best to keep the conversation at a minimum, so if I have enough time to have lunch with my fellow mama friends, I think I also want to go near my wife’s work place to have lunch together with my wife. Actually I wonder if I cannot do that either way? In the afternoon I would have to buy groceries and prepare dinner. After having dinner with my family, I certainly want some time alone at night with my wife to talk to her. I will also listen to her complaints. Because that’s one thing I can do. I tried hard to imagine all of these things and squeeze them into a day somehow, does it really feel like that? Honestly, I cannot say anything more than that about being a house-husband, I’m sorry (laughing)!

VS Arashi 2017.10.12 - Sato Shori, Matsushima Sou
Something Sou wants to say to Shori
Sexy Zone Special Talk
Kento: A good play and an unusual play in 2018. What were they? Marius: Speaking of 2018, isn’t it “24” after all? Shori: “24-Hour Television”. Marius: During live broadcasting, Shori didn’t make it back in time. Sou: Ah, was that a good play? Shori: Actually I was supposed to say a comment at Nihon Budokan but I moved by mistake. When “Sato-kun” was shown on screen I wasn’t there...only Kenty? Marius: Right. Shori: I heard that he answered for me instead. Kento: I was the one who was next to Shori most of the time. Well, so I did it naturally. Fuma: That’s exactly a good play! Marius: Also, me and Fuma-kun challenged traditional Japanese dance at 24. Shori: Ehh, you’re going to compliment yourself? Marius: No no (laughing). I was going to talk about Fuma-kun! Kento: With such little time available, the two of you surely did a good job! Marius: They also put white makeup on our faces and we performed without much preparation, it was a nice feeling. Fuma: Was that so? Sou: Ehh, did you forget? Fuma: I’m kidding (laughing). Since that was actually Marius’ project, I was told that I will appear in a supporting position but when we started I remember I appeared a long time. Marius had to dance with female movements and I’m sure that was difficult but I also had to do a sword fight...I was a little angry (laughing). Shori: You were angry! Fuma: Well, Marius was beautiful as well and the performance went well so now I have a good memory of it! Kento: So your anger disappeared? Fuma: It disappeared (laughing). Shori: I guess that’s a good play. Fuma: On the contrary speaking of unusual plays, it was 24-Hour Televion’s octopus fishing. Sou: I wasn’t able to catch any myself. Shori: But Sou-chan had to do that. Me and Fuma-kun have moved to Budokan during that time, it was around six in the morning when we saw it, right? Fuma: Yep. Shori: I was cheering him on like “Get it, get it!” but unfortunately it was Tanaka (Misako)-san who got it in the end (laughing). Kento: Not, it was just that Misako-san’s power was too great. Shori: But I wanted Sou-kun to try a little harder and hold the octopus more firmly. Sou: That octopus didn’t listen to what I said at all. Marius: Was the octopus delicious? Sou: It was. Fuma: That may have been an unusual play (laughing). Shori: Have there been any other unusual plays? Marius: Shori’s comedy in “Will Sexy Zone be able to change their lives in only three days!?”. I’m glad that Shori-kun was able to lead. I cannot get teased without teasing jokes after all. Shori: Ehh, I had an unusual play? But you just praised me, didn’t you? Marius: Aren’t we talking about “team play”? (t/n: 珍プレー= „unusual play“ is pronounced „chin play“ in Japanese, which sounds very similar toチームプレー=chimu play=team play) Shori: No, we are talking about „unusual plays“. Marius: „Chin play“? Sou: It’s about something weird or unusual that has happened! Marius: Now I see (laughing). Fuma: It’s not that bad (laughing). Kento: As usual, Marius is being cute~ (laughing). Marius: By the way, in January we were the newscaster for the „Spring volleyball tournament“. Sou: Up until now the three of us didn’t do anything main together. Kento: So, did anything happen at the tournament? Sou: I realised that it was really difficult to do live reports and tell people things by yourself. Kento: From December of last year I have been watching Matsushima’s efforts. You were studying for the tournament in our dressing room at „Music station“. You were really working hard during that time. Sou: Kenty gave me advice on how to report things to people on live television. Shori: So that was a good play for Kenty. Kento: In April, our irregular tv show that we had just mentioned briefly before has been broadcasted. Marius: „Will Sexy Zone be able to change their lives in only three days!?“. Everyone was nervous. Kento: But thanks to the backflip I was able to perform at Orchard Hall, I’m still shocked about that. Fuma: Everyone was able to master various skills, I guess it was an impressive tv show. Marius: Sou-chan also tried dreadlocks. At the tour there were many fans who wrote about Sou-chan’s dreads on their uchiwas. Shori: Really? Marius: Ehh, didn’t they? Sou: That’s right (laughing). Marius: I was surprised~ I thought I was making things up for a second. Kento: Well, Marius has the habit of making things up sometimes (laughing). Marius: Now 2018 is almost over as well. What kind of year would you like 2019 to be? Shori: When we were asked that question last year and we said „We want to appear on 24-Hour television“, it surely came true. Fuma: Right. Then I want to appear on TV Asahi’s „Zenryoku zaka“. Shori: You want us to run? Sou: Isn’t that a tv show where only girls run? Kento: Even if we gasp for air, there will be no demand for us (laughing). Fuma: As of right now, we don’t have a regular tv programme for Sexy Zone. That’s why in 2019, I definitely want us to get a regular tv programme. Shori: Exactly. „Will Sexy Zone be able to change their lives in only three days!?“ was a special show but I want us to connect it to the next one. Fuma: Even if we’re regulars at „Zenryoku zaka“ (laughing). Shori: Do you really want to run that badly!? Marius: But if we’re running there, we could also do it at „24-Hour television“ for a charity marathon... Kento: Is that okay since it’s a completely different tv station? Marius: Ok I’ll stop (laughing).

Shori x Sou
*Magazine comment: As announced by Johnny’s on 28th November 2018, Matsushima Sou-kun has devoted himself to concentrate on his medical treatment. This MYOJO February issue is the last one he worked on before starting his hiatus.*
Connecting sushi and creating a song!
Sou: We’ve been told we’re the “close in age” combination! Shori: It’s convenient, isn’t it? We can buy yakitori, sushi and even souvenirs together, right? A lot of salads as well... No, the whole basement of a department store!! Sou: ...what are you talking about (laughing)? Shori: It’s something you can do with someone who’s “close in age”. Sou: I see. I’ve almost thought what’s wrong now. Shori: It was a great experience to appear on screen. I was able to co-star with Hashimoto (Kanna)-san... In “HaruChika”!! Sou: Ah... I see. Shori: Do you understand what I’m trying to get at? I’m talking about Travis Japan’s centre. Someone lively! ...Miyachika (Kaito)!! Hey! I was trying to make a joke~ (laughing). (t/n: Shori was trying to make a lame joke since 年近=“close in age” in Japanese is pronounced “toshi chika” and it’s similar to Miyachika’s name, so he kept mentioning words that have “miya” and “chika” in them) Sou: I’m sorry. But the last one was easy to understand (laughing). By the way recently, I didn’t meet up with Shori in private. We both had things to do. Shori: No, it’s not both. Just because Sou-kun was busy doesn’t mean that I was! Sou: That’s right (laughing). Shori was inviting me. But it really got intertwined with other plans so it didn’t work out. I want you to believe me! Shori: I know your methods! Sou: Hey~ (laughing). Shori: Well, I’m inviting you because I know I’ll get rejected. I'm aware of when Sou-kun is going out being busy and when not. Sou: Is this a psychological test of some sort? (laughing). But among the members, Shori invites me to go out the most! Shori: That’s because I’m really kind. Usually when I get rejected multiple times I won’t invite that person anymore, right? Sou: I’m sorry... Ah, let’s go eat sushi next time! Shori knows many good restaurants, right? Shori: Is this also a promise that won’t ever come true...? Sou: Let’s go! I also want to take a walk while eating. I really wanted to go to the fish market in Tsukiji before it disappeared. Shori: Don’t say it disappeared (laughing)! They relocated. Sou: To Toyosu (laughing). So we can go to Toyosu instead. Shori: Why did you want to go to Tsukiji then? Sou: Yep, I wanted to go... I really wanted to go... Shori: I went there on their last day before closing down. Sou: I didn’t know! That’s nice. Shori: Well, shall we go to Toyosu then? Sou: Let’s go! There’s a shopping mall there as well. Later in 2019 I want us to make a song together. The new year is approaching and since the both of us have completely different characters, I think it would turn out to be an interesting song. Shori: We’ve talked about that before already but we didn’t realise it yet. Sou: The two of us can make it from scratch! Shori: A completely new song. Well then I will write the lyrics. Sou: And I will think of the choreography! Shori: Sounds like fun! Sou: I absolutely want to make it happen!

Shori x Sou
Sou: Last time I had this interview was with Marius about having less opportunities to go out for meals with him but with Shori it’s actually the same. Shori: It’s strange, although we see each other at work almost every day. Sou: Didn’t the two of us meet up during spring of 2018 quite often? Shori: Right. Once before, you heard about my schedule from our manager and asked me “Shori. You’re off tomorrow, right...?”. I gotta say that was a good strategy...! Sou: No, no! I certainly did confirm your schedule before but you don’t have to put it that way (laughing). Shori: Aah, sorry. Sou-kun told me “When you say Sexy Rose, I think you should say it with a slightly deeper voice?” Sou: When did I say that!? (laughing) Shori: During our debut days. Sou: That’s a long time ago! But did I seriously say such a thing? I don’t remember... Shori: Then when we we’re singing “With You” on television, during the part when I got pulled into the camera, you have interrupted me before, right? Sou: Wahaha! That I remember (laughing). I had to show off. “When the camera comes up, I have to show off immediately”, that’s what I thought. Shori: Having such a hungry attitude, I think I wasn’t wrong? Sou: Thank you (laughing). Certainly, after that our choreographer told me “You came out too early (on screen)!” and scolded me. So this time I try to avoid it as much as possible, so no one would tell me “Don’t appear too early!” and get angry at me (laughing). Shori: Sou-kun, as always you’re either a zero or a 100. By the way, “Sunshine Matsushima” is definitely a 100 who is easy to understand. No, that alone doesn’t exceed a 100. Sou: Yes, there’s no doubt (laughing). Of course I am just being me but the truth is, I have thought about something in secret. This year, if we do a national tour as Sexy Zone, I want to go for meals with Shori at our tour destinations! Shori: We’re always going though. Sou: You mean the five of us? That’s not it, I want to go with Shori alone. I think I want to have slow conversations at the place we’re staying at. Ah, it’s not that I don’t want to go for a meal with the whole group as well (laughing). Shori: I understand what you want to say. When it’s the five of us, our conversations can get exciting but there are some stories that you cannot talk about unless it’s only two people. Then we would also be in a special situation since we’re traveling. Some interesting stories might be revealed. Sou: That’s right. Me and Shori have spent a lot of time together recently and we have practised impersonations on radio shows as well, right? Shori: I wonder if it’s okay to count that one (laughing). Well, let’s make a promise between me and Sou-kun. Let’s make our next concert tour even more enjoyable than the last time. Sou: You’re making promises again ♪ Shori: Again? Sou: You promised the two of us are going to do a dance performance together! But you didn’t make that a reality yet. Shori: While we’re at it, we also said to do a duet before as well. I think it was quite some while ago... Sou: Shori said „The two of us can’t dance together right now. I want to do it at our best timing“. That’s what you said back then. Shori: Our best timing, I feel like it’s already gone... Sou: No, no, no! It didn’t arrive yet! In other words... Actually if you say „We might be able to do it“ even just once, that means there is a chance of us doing it. However, unfortunately our schedules didn’t match yet. Shori: What kind of performance we want, we must have discussed that already to this point. Sou: „Let’s do this“, we even decided what kind of song we want to use. From there on we consulted with each other in details what kind of composition we want and gathered so many ideas in a short time. A meeting like that with Shori was really fun. Shori: When the chance arrives and we can make this a reality so that our idea doesn’t have to be on standby anymore, we have to do it little by little. Sou: Yes! If you think you can do it again, I am really looking forward to a meeting with Shori♡ Shori: Maybe we should introduce it for the first time at our dream dome...!? Sou: That would be the best!
