SHORT FIN MAKO🦈 Pelagic sharks often migrate long distances, but they may also occur close to shore, making it difficult to classify their behaviour between oceanic nomad to coastal resident. A 2019 study set out to track the habitat use and mobility of shortfin mako sharks (Isurus oxyrinchus) in the New Zealand region and found that the sharks residency periods sometimes lasted for several months (Malcom 2018). These results challenge the conventional view that mako sharks are nomadic wanderers, and suggest that fishing mortality should be managed at a local as well as a regional scale. @splashy_shark • #Repost @sdexpeditions ・・・ Having spent countless hours in the water with these beautiful animals, @nicklebeouf and the team are beyond saddened to learn of the recent IUCN conservation status change of the shortfin mako from vulnerable to endangered. May this be a wake up call needed to stop the detrimental effects of human impact to shortfin mako populations worldwide. 📸: @kyle.mcb . . #sdexpeditions #shortfinmako #makoshark #saveoursharks #sharklover #sharkconservation #endangeredspecies #endangered #savethesharks #savethearth #mothernature (at Haleiwa, Hawaii) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxqdxkSHHr8/?igshid=1ukcnondgafo1
My absolute favorite shark! Meet the shortfin mako! He’s got a large tail with a symmetrical upper and lower lobe that helps him be one of the fastest fish in the sea! #shortfinmako #shark #procreate #ipadpro #mako #makoshark https://www.instagram.com/p/BtzHEwyHL5T/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1dcjuiz1hf7ep

Just doodled this shortfin mako for shark week. I didn't get a chance to do much for shark week because I had my finals at the same time. #mako #makoshark #shortfinmako #shark #animals #animalart #animalanatomy #animaldrawing #wildlife #wildlifeart #wildlifedrawing #sketch #drawing #art #traditionalart #traditionaldrawing #marinelife #sealife #oceanlife
#Repost @aproctor.art (@get_repost) ・・・ Hello shark 17/365 in my #yearofsharksproject the Shortfin Mako Shark! Shortfin makos are possibly the fastest sharks in the world and can reach speeds of over 60mph! This is due to their slightly different body and tail structure than other sharks; the muscles around their tails and along their bodies contract in a lateral piston-like motion, adding forward thrust to their movements. They are warm blooded, making them highly adaptable to temperatures and as such are found all over the globe! When annoyed or about to strike, shortfin makos will swim in a figure eight pattern around their prey. Attacks on humans by these sharks are extremely rare, with only nine being recorded as of 2015, only one of which was fatal. They have been known to become aggressive when provoked or caught on the end of a line, and have injured fishermen and damaged boats in this state. Even so, they are still highly prized game fish and are valued highly for their meat and fins. The IUCN currently lists them as Vulnerable due to bycatch in tuna and billfish long lines and driftnet fisheries, and the continuous threat of the shark fin trade ❤🦈❤ . . #yearofsharks #shortfinmako #shark #sharkart #saveourseas #saveoursharks #sharkeducation #art #artist #artivism #artforgood #arteducation #ink #watercolour #ocean #oceanconservation #respectthefin #respectsharks #nofear #nofinsoup #nofinsnofuture
