I made this little piece for @introvertedwolf! If you haven’t scrolled through his stuff you really should! His art is super cool and unique, plus he has a side blog @shortoutau (which is where the Papyrus is from) which is filled to the brim with awesome storytelling and angst to boot!

...tbh, I’m rewriting this with less information because I went in with a shitload of detail before and it took forever and I doubt anyone would wanna read all that. I figured if anyone is curious about specifics, they can just ask- XD

-The underground is in constant famine

-Monsters have been in the Underground since 1692, but the story takes place present-day

-Monsters and Humans are the same species, but different races

-Monsters are born with 1 hp, 1atk, 1def, but gain their stats slowly as they grow older. It changes often, fluctuation being the worst at early adolescence, then steadies as they reach adulthood (ages 18-25)

-It’s expected that any monster with regular (and especially ones who are above average) strength own at least one other, much weaker monster as a pet and/or worker.

-They evolved to have faster reaction times and better natural-born stats (both physical and magical)

-A vast majority of monsters in the underground are children. The ones who are not are the ones who have killed so many people that they can’t be stopped

..or they’re a pet.

-Monsters have litters. Fucking enormous litters. I’m talking 6-15 in one pregnancy. Granted, the babies are significantly smaller than normal (probably only the size of a hand). They grow like weeds though- at least 3-4x faster than normal (though I haven’t figured out the specifics quite yet)

-Most average monsters will always feel pain if touched, even if it’s not a strike. This is a psychological effect. The pain will vary depending on how well they know the person, if they agreed to the touch (hence why demanding hugs is literally harming them), and if they’re used to it. Pet people that are raised away from the violence of the world, though, have been taught that touch is always good, so they don’t feel the same pain

-Because of the constant famine, monsters evolved to need less food than normal. They can eat less and stay alive much, much longer than any not-Shortout person could

-There’s no society. There are no schools or hospitals. There are no social norms. Courtesy is never taught. Most monsters are illiterate, save for scientists and royalty

-Monsters can get sick too, but more often than not, it’s deadly.

-You will never get immediate trust from anyone, especially not an adult. If you do, run. It’s a very bad sign.

...that’s all I can think of. I’m sure there are more, but I don’t remember them right now.
