In a Galaxy Not So Far Away...
With the coming arrival of the latest installment in the Star Wars franchise, and a few Star Wars fans in the office, we at Short Run Pro were excited to find out some very interesting information about a beloved character.
Ok this isn't the actual news, so keep reading.
Maybe you're not a huge Star Wars fan...(but should be)
Or maybe you can quote every word to A New Hope in your sleep.
Whatever your fan level, we still think you will love to know this.
Short Run Pro partners with experts in many fields of manufacturing. For many circular parts, we use a company called Lewark Metal Spinning. Metal spinning is a process that spins a disk of metal at high speed while deforming it with a tool. Spinning is used to make everyday things like bowls and cooking pans as well as specialty items like aircraft parts.
We were excited to learn that this company partner helped create none other than...
R2-D2
That's right. the one who always saves the day, who you can't understand what he's saying but you know it's incredibly sarcastic, R2-D2.
We received pictures of R2's work in progress. What an interesting piece of cinematic history! This part in the picture below was used for the R2-D2 that appeared in the prequels, chronologically Episodes 1-3. We are thankful to work with such talented people.
The iconic character's head, chillin' in the warehouse.
How does this production process work?
Curious to how they made the feisty little droid? Watch how the spinning process works below, 0:00-5:20 to find out!
Thank you Discovery Channel, for being a part of our lives in the early 2000's.

We hope it makes you as happy as a dancing C3PO.
