Shout Out for Shout Louder
Big Signal Boost today for Shout Louder webzine. Self-descried as “a music zine for punks who don’t like papercuts”, this UK based publication posts music industry interviews, reviews, and opinion pieces. I find their reviews, particularly of live music, to be a highlight if you’re interested in anything punk, hardcore, folk, ska, or indie. Their standard and guest writers aren’t afraid to get personal, and the casual attitude of the writing only makes everything come across as all the more genuine. They have a regular campaign under #mentallysound where they discuss mental health in music, with contributors ranging from musicians and producers to gig-heads and fans. They’re also pro-feminist and with true punk attitude aren’t afraid to speak out against the laws, governments, and people that don’t live up to their standards (i.e. this #solidaritynotsilence op on the Johnny Fox case.
With feminist morals, a focus on mental health, and all the insider punk music you can dream of, this zine lands at the top of my list. You might know them from their podcast too, but unfortunately they haven’t released a new episode this year.
