one of the reasons i dislike show!dany (not that im an anti, i loved her sm in seasons 1-5) but not book!dany is honestly more of a complaint i have about the show as a whole, rather than just her.

in the show, the threat of the others was presented as a distraction to the game of thrones, whereas in the books the game of thrones is presented as a distraction to the oncoming threat of the others. because the throne is a construct and the others are the actual fucking apocalypse. but whatever, right?

as such: show!dany did not care much for fighting against the others because atp she only wanted the throne. she just wanted it to be over and done with so she could conquer the rest of westeros. but book!dany would abandon all ambitions for the throne to fight against the others because book!dany values life and people and helping others above all else. she would fight against the others because she is a liberator, and what is more liberating than stopping the others? if she then gets support for her claim because of that, good for her, but that’s not what she would be fighting for. she would be fighting for people. not power.

So I happened to come across this comment on Youtube;

Since when is sympathizing with ENSLAVERS ever a good thing? Do people really think George is this much of a centrist? Slavery is OBJECTIVELY WRONG, anyone who says otherwise is WRONG and messed up beyond words. The existence of disagreements does not change what is objectively true.

One of my main issues with the show is how Dany's righteous violence was framed as questionable because of sentiments like "violence is violence no matter the reason" and "if you use violence against your enemies you're just as bad as them" when that's just not true. Especially in a medieval, fantasy world with a feudal system.

Would we apply that logic to Robert, Ned, and Jon for overthrowing the Mad King? Are all three just as bad as the man who burned people alive with pleasure, raped and abused his wife, and meant to blow up a city with hundreds of thousands of men, women, and children in it? No!

Are the Starks just as bad as Ramsey Bolton because they used violence to take back Winterfell? No!

Is Daenerys just as bad as the enslavers because she used violence to end their oppression and abuse of enslaved people? NO!

This is the bullshit logic of D&D not understanding Martin's world and wanting to make SLAVERS, of all people, sympathetic. These are the same men who tried to create a modern day slavery show where the Confederates prevailed instead of the Union during the Civil War. It's disgusting and only feeds into racist propaganda just like their "army of savages" and "Hizdahr's father was a good slave owner" writing. George has his own internalized prejudices to work on, but it's nowhere near what D&D have achieved with their monstrosity.

I don't think Daenerys had Targaryen madness as it's described in the books or like her father in the show. She was never paranoid out of turn, all of her fears came true just as she knew they would. She was betrayed by her advisors, people were plotting to overthrow her for a man, she lost multiple allies and close friends, etc.

She managed to attack KL and avoid citizens completely up until the bells rang. Here's the thing though, bells never meant surrender before season 8, and even then Cersei is not the one who rung the bells or gave the order. Cities are sacked even after surrendering, that's just the way of the world in Westeros, especially when the ruler refuses to back down. Daenerys could not see the Lannister army surrendering, she did not know if Cersei was surrendering, and from everything that Tyrion told her and that she experienced first hand she wasn't going to surrender. The soldiers were mingled with the citizens and could not be told apart in the first place. Daenerys needed to ensure her victory and that her enemies were wiped out, a show of power that would prove her will and fierceness to the rest of Westeros. She did, at a terrible cost, but I wouldn’t call that madness. Ruthless, yes, but madness, no.

She was angry in that moment from having lost so much, but her decision was deliberate. She could not trust Tyrion's advice to "call off the attack when they ring the bells" because Tyrion had failed her over and over again. She could no longer trust him or his words after he failed and betrayed her. Her victory was too easy and didn't seem real, it seemed like a trap that could slip between her fingers if she stopped or let her guard down. She was lucid in her final moments, she knew what she did, and being ruthless is not being "mad" when the show and books have shown us that ruthlessness is necessary to win.

Wrote this up in response to a question on whether or not show!Dany was mad. I don't think so. I also don't think book!Dany is going to burn KL like in the show at all. This is just how I choose to interpret Season 8 Episode 5, if I MUST acknowledge it.

Oh ja, Danys Perücke stört mich mittlerweile ungemein. (Als würde ständig jmd. mit Kamm & Lockenstab bereit stehen. ;) ) Zwar ist das nur ein kleineres Ärgernis, aber es zerstört die 'realistischere' Darstellung, die man noch in den ersten Staffeln hatte. Es war eine seltsame Genugtuung Dany in S6 für zwei Episoden mit verwuscheltem Haar zu sehen. WoW kann nicht früh genug kommen, obwohl ich glaube, dass dies nicht vor Ende der kompletten TV Serie geschehen wird.

Bei mir geht es eher um die Farbe: in S1 was es die richtige Farbe, jetzt ist sie eine Art Paris Hilton :-)

My anon says she/he does not like Dany’s current wig either, due to the fact that she looks always perfectly coiffed (which is stupid, I agree)…but my issue is actually that they got the right colour in S1 (silver blonde, although still not silver enough), whereas now we have a Paris-Hilton-like colour. :-)
