I dipped my toe into SW discussion, mainly on youtube after watching some clips. (I KNOW. Youtube comments are generally never a good idea.)
Anyway, there's a lot of discussion about what Anakin did and what Obi-Wan did leading up to Order 66, and how things could have been better and who's to blame. But the one thing I haven't really seen? Is a mention of the frickin Sith Lord twisting the crap out of Anakin's brain for over a decade.
Were the Jedi actually uncaring? No, but you better believe Palpatine was whispering that in Anakin's ear. Was Obi-Wan really trying to hold Anakin back? Of course not. He wanted nothing more than for Anakin to thrive. But Palpatine was absolutely telling Anakin that. The Jedi don't understand you, you're so much better than them, the Jedi are actually the bad guys, etc. etc.
Sure you could say "if only Anakin got therapy" he would have been okay, but...I'm not sure he would have been while Palpatine was still pouring Sith darkness into him. This is the Star Wars universe, so it likely wasn't just childhood manipulation (which is bad enough) but probably also included darkside Force bullshit. And this went on since he was nine years old.
Does that excuse Anakin's actions? No. But I'm just surprised that Palpatine doesn't seem to be a part of the conversation.
