As much as I love shred guitar, I would rather hear someone with a ton of feeling in his playing, over someone who can shred his ass off with no passion. It's something to which I pay continual attention: the balance between striving for flawless technique, and making sure that the playing actually has emotion. As a matter of fact, the most I rip continually is in Instagram videos. I usually focus a lot more on building motifs and trying to reflect the energy of my surroundings. But even when shredding, passion is essential.
