A progression I find really inspiring for improvisation is playing over alternating V7 and IVMaj7#11 chords. It allows you to alternate between what are arguably the 2 most majestic sounding modes in diatonic scales: Mixolydian & Lydian. Think of it as basically playing over the IV chord of a key, and shifting the root back and forth between the 4th & 5th. This improvisation is in the key of B Major, so the chords are F#7 and EMaj7#11, giving F# Mixolydian & E Lydian.
