Policarpia Calipayan (Apiang), 27, is a true Bay Area pinay. Raised in the diverse city of Vallejo, CA, you can hear Apiang's loudass laugh from a mile away. Apiang is ALWAYS cracking jokes. It's no surprise that she became a nurse, and not because she's Filipino, but because she truly cares about people, unlike her brother Cian who mostly became a nurse for practical reasons. Apiang is happily married to Charles, a good Fil-Am man struggling to keep his Filipino restaurant afloat. Despite mostly living her best life, Apiang doesn't understand the feelings of dread and futility that overcome her more frequently as she gets older. She has been in denial about her mental health for a long time and it’s starting to take its toll. Daaang! When those Netflix and Starz writer's rooms combine tho! 💜👀 Woke up this morning feeling surrounded by beautiful spirits and also feeling really lucky to be a part of incredible work. Creating in this industry is so fucking difficult for me, to be honest. You've got to look a certain way, act a certain way, and even create in a way. All of these things I fall outside of, even if I try to fit the aesthetic.
