Boy howdy, Kaito and Mickey. What a duo.
Honestly, had someone told me around chapter 2 that Kaito and Mickey would probably end up being best buds, I never would have believed you. People reading the game still might not believe you, but...
Kaito was a little bitter after the chapter 2 incident because he was scared of being an easy target. Had he died that week, he never would've rebounded from that same bitterness. However, they started talking, eventually becoming a little more comfortable around each other.
The last roadbump in their relationship was Yoshihiro's return, in which Mickey "Fire in her Eyes" Oh let both Kaito and Yoshihiro know she was upset. But, in the end, they cared about each other. Mickey was nervous about Kaito being the culprit in chapter 8 and was visibly relieved when he said he wasn't and showed evidence to prove it.
There's a lot of predespair stuff that we talked about occurring, and that just further cements in my mind that these two would actually be super close.
