Snow Day Thursday

We are being hit by Winter Storm Elliott, so we will be closed for the day and very probably tomorrow as well. To reflect the snowy clime, we present a Chinese scroll painting entitled Qi Dakui's picture of snow in the deep mountains (imitating the brushwork of Li Tang [Xi Gu]) - 祁大夔深山雪霽圖(仿李唐(晞古)筆意, from our Tse-Tsung Chow Collection of Chinese Scrolls and Fan Paintings.

Qi Dakui (1921-1982), known by the pseudonym Xiao Xi Ju Shi, was born in Beijing and specialized in landscape painting. His father, Qi Kun, was also a renowned landscape painter during the beginning of Republic of China. This ink-wash style of painting is known as Shuimo. Here, Qi is emulating the style of the noted 11th-century Chinese painter Li Tang (c. 1050 – 1130). 

There are five Chinese seals or chops. They read: 1) 祁 - Qi; 2) 小西 - Xiaoxi; 3) 伯龍 - Bolong; 4) 周策縱 - Zhou Cezong (i.e., Tse Tsung Chow); 5) 晴窗一日幾回春 - Seeing spring scences several times a day from sunny windows.

中国画的基本是黑白体系，黑色占有绝对的地位，而画家张荣耀的山水画作品，以深厚的国画功底，超强的形体把握能力，将笔下的山水那雄伟的气势，精神的内涵跃然纸上。他的这幅国画山水作品《溪山人家》，以虚实相映的笔墨，描绘了气韵生动的山水幽居图。画面上远处山高水长，树木纵横，充满诗情画意；近景水岸人家古朴自然，分块的水塘船儿悠悠，站在船上泼洒鱼饲料的渔人隐约可见，充满生活气息。整体上既有书卷气，又显得厚重而气势磅礴，大气又不失文雅。作品充满了艺术魅力。

His painting of the Chinese landscape, "Xishan Renjia", depicts the vivid landscape of the mountains and rivers with the ink and the ink. Mr. Guo Shaoshan, a landscape painter, painted landscape paintings. For the famous landscape painting, everyone is a disciple of Guo Gongda. Deeply accepted by Guo Lao. Now: Member of the Anhui Artists Association, director of the Suzhou Artists Association, member of the China Huaxia Cultural and Academic Exchange Association. The papers and works have been published many times in national newspapers. The works are exported to foreign countries and major cities in China. Hu Zhaoxue, a teacher from Guo Shaoshan, was born under Xiaomeng’s famous landscape master Guo Gongda.
