** my contribution for the second volume of our Fromsoft Creators' Guild Zine! With the theme being Equinox, I thought of Chichén Itzá and one of its pyramids (a former temple of the god Kukulkan, the feathered serpent–you may be familiar with his Aztec name, Quetzalcoatl). On Equinox, there is a moment when the pyramid is cast in shadows, making it seem like a serpent of pure sunlight is slithering down the stairs. Here's a video showing this a little more clearly and a blog post also explaining it. Of course, my piece isn't set in Chichén Itzá but Shulva from Dark Souls II. I'm so happy I got to embrace my love for pre-Colombian cultures and put my studies in cultural anthropology to good use with Dark Souls fanart. (Yes, those are actual Maya glyphs on that mural, and supposed to mean something!)
