I love “this new day” because it is a good song and also mirrors really well both Elena and Shuriki’s feelings at the time
“A chance for us to start anew, for dreams to blossom and come true” - Shuriki has just regained enough power to take over Avalor again, Elena has become a better crown princess and is more confident in taking control
“The journey took so many years, so many sorrows, doubts and fears. But once again we proudly rise to greet the sun with wondrous eyes” - Shuriki has come out of hiding after being defeated by Elena which has taken a VERY long time to gain her full power, Elena has taken back Avalor for her people and feels safe for the first time in a while
“For all we lost is back to stay, behold the dawn of this new day. As all our troubles melt away, behold the dawn of this new day” - Shuriki is confident that she is going to conquer Avalor again with her new power and support as she has also (if I remember correctly) emotionally broken Elena by using the gem in her parents crown to build a wand to try and kill her. A bit of dramatic irony for Elena’s bit, as we know that “all her troubles melting away” is very much wrong, based on Shuriki having gained power and currently breaking into the palace
I was just rewatching the song on YT and thought that was cool :)

This is just a self-birthday gift that I ended up doing like 2 weeks before my actual birthday (Third sunday of April) but I'll probably be busy with college and work to post it on that day, and I kinda don't trust the whole setting time on it. I usually do a original piece but I decided this year to be a bit self indulgent and do I redraw I wanted to do
I'll focus on continuing my line art practices in the meantime to take some time to relax from RRV stuff (nonetheless I am open for questions or dms ^^)
(This is kinda their relationship in a nutshell, outside the vunerable moments. I don't really have a context for it, i do know the original is when the carriage mishap with the Delgados fully as Malvagos, but for the redrawn I like to think Fiero basically got his point proven right and...well someone is really not liking to admit he was right)
Fiero and Shuriki are my favorite EOA villains and I do wish we have gotten more of them and their dynamic (and the characters that have the completed oufit lineups, so made it easier for reference. And yes, both are teens but like slightly older ones)
(That moment crack me up, and Fiero worked so well as part of the team, then his facepalm and Shuriki slowly regretting her life choices)
And if some were curious, I don't intend many end games (outside a previous one I am working how it would work) so relationships are kinda up to interpretation. The infamous 4 (yes, Queenie finally got a name for ther RRV! Gang. Its part because its a role reversal and because well I do think they would be infamous in Avalor) are friends with some being closer to others, but not a huge romantic thing. I may change my mind in the future who nows
Here's the no effects version
(and I hid the background using the air brush. So sorry if it looks really bad lol)
I did also made a funny bonus as a continuation to what I think the follow up
pseudo-incorrect Elena of Avalor quotes #1:
|||
Esteban: Did you really have to cripple that villager's daughter?
Shuriki: I'd say it was an acceptable payment for fixing his village's crops. Besides, I sure enjoyed it!
Esteban: Fixing that vilage's crops for free could have been good for your popularity.
Shuriki: Yes, but this was more fun. Besides, it reminds them that I'm volatile and it’s dangerous to go against me.
Esteban: What if the kingdom decides they have nothing to lose and goes against you anyway?
Shuriki: Then I'll just kill them all and repeat the whole process somewhere else.
You know who this MF look like?!
LOOOOOK!!!! 😨
Very cool detail about Elena of Avalor that I just noticed. Shuriki's hair whipping to the side is actually a very subtle hint that Elena's sneaking behind her with her invisibility spell ready to ambush her. I've rewatched the show several times and only just recently picked up on this but it is pretty damn cool! (This scene is my favorite in the whole show btw)
Elena of Avalor treats the eponymous protagonist as a benevolent monarch. While Elena Castillo Flores encounters many challenges...she serves as Crown Princess of Avalor, including facing an evil witch named Shuriki (who killed her parents), there is no popular revolt against her. Instead, there’s only a nonviolent revolution-of-sorts by Avalor’s populace, backed by a foreign power (Enchancia), against the aforementioned witch, allowing Elena to become crown princess and ruler of Avalor through this coup d’etat...everyone seems to be content to be ruled by an unelected, young princess, who’s a monarch that chosen through hereditary means, and helped by a council of advisors. In the series finale, she is crowned Queen. While her struggles through the series, as a Latine princess, are clear, as she is helped by her friend Naomi Turner, she is never romantically paired with any other characters, the series never criticizes the royal right to rule or monarchism. In fact, other princesses are featured (Caterina, Marisa, and Valentina) and have key roles.
A good point in this article, but I would romantically ship them.
