Kara doesn’t show up completely unannounced - she hints and suggests until she appears at people’s doors with food or affection - and always her bright demeanor. Really, it was a show of self control that she’d waited three full days before seeking Vira out. Kara worries - especially when it comes to her less than human friends, when there are such hateful people in the world.
The need to help and soothe and act is something Kara simply can’t ignore. She has to tamp own the urge to ask - to know immediately why Vira’s crying, what or who has hurt her to the point that she actually lets those emotions show. Kara knows that it’s no small feat for Vira to let her see her like this - and that settles deep in her gut. She won’t forget this.
Vira’s glare is as familiar as anything these days - Kara knows it and lets it wash over her, an empty threat if anything. Her way of saying hello, almost. She’s still in there, at least - Kara’s glad she can glare, it’s a good sign, maybe.
The stormy thing behind Vira’s eyes is there - something Kara understands and sees. It’s in M’gann’s eyes sometimes, in J’onn’s, in Alex’s - in her own, even though she tries not to let it show. Kara doesn’t pry, but she can sense when the something leaks out and gets hard to control - or when the world starts to press in and make the something seem bigger.
She knows that sometimes words aren’t enough - or they’re too much, or just not right. So she keeps her questions and comments at bay and uses the rest of what she has. It’s tentative at first, careful not to startle Vira or hurt her - she’s not human, but Kara still doesn’t want to crush her. Once she sees that she won’t pull away, she really hugs her. The initial tension makes her wary - and she considers going back to her corner of the couch, but then Vira’s talking, and Kara can’t help the grin on her face.
“I won’t tell - it’ll be our secret,” she replies, only a hint of teasing in her voice. Vira wouldn’t hurt her, not really, but she’d never betray her trust like that. Kara understands the need to keep up a certain persona. She almost adds ‘that you’re a cuddle bug’, but that probably won’t go over too well right now.
She snuggles in more instead, lets her cheek nuzzle Vira’s shoulder. Kara’s not sure what affection is like for Vira’s kind, but she hopes she gets close. She applies a bit more pressure than she would with a human - because she also understands what it is not to feel touch when you really need it. She knows what it’s like to be afraid to ask. There’s only so much humans can do before it actually comes through.
“Is this okay?” she asks, squeezing just a bit before loosening her arms a fraction, for Vira to adjust if need be. Kara holds on, and she works over the words in her head, careful, choosing.
“You disappeared...I was just wondering, so...” she adds, with a shrug, jostling them just a bit. She doesn’t want Vira to feel stifled or stalked - just for her to know that people notice when she’s gone - that she’s important, acknowledged, remembered.
