Sheep Station...
…at Getty Station. Michael Shvo, real estate developer and art collector, has turned the former Getty Filling Station into a unique venue for site specific public art.
Getty Station, nestled into the corner of a modern condominium building, is clearly on a piece of land ripe for development into luxury residences. Indeed, it will eventually be developed by SHVO.
But until then, it will be a fascinating venue in an area already gallery rich - the High Line art district of Chelsea.
The inaugural exhibit was Sheep Station (2013), by François-Xavier Lalanne.
Twenty five of Lalanne's iconic epoxy stone and bronze "Moutons" congregated on the corner.
Lalanne has been creating and showing various iterations of his sheep sculptures since 1965, but this exhibit marks the largest collection ever shown in one place.
