Mori had kept a lot from dazai, even the fact he had a sister. Now mori had known the whole time, but didn't think she was important enough to drag her into this hell hole like he did with her brother.
Besides, he has one demon prodigy, why would he bother with another kid?
At least, that was until your ability developed.
See, your ability allowed you to swap peoples memories around. You'd enter their headspace, and, either change the memory completely, or just destroy it, leaving it long forgotten. You could do that to yourself, too.
How could he pass up the opportunity? You'd be perfect for what he has in store.
And just like the bastard he is, he took you. Just snatched you up.
What did he do? He dressed you up in port mafia attire, and basically shoved you to dazai for him to take care of you, as he could train you himself.
Neither of you even got to process the information, just, "hey! Here's your long lost sister! Go bond and have fun!" And that was it.
"wh..what?" You managed to muster out, a feeling of irritation bubbling up in you as you now stared at the two closed doors in front of you, mind racing and heart beating either out of fear, anxiety, adrenaline, or anger.
"Welp." Dazai shrugged, hands on his hips like this was a casual monday..which was quite the opposite today, if anything, this is the most appalled he's been.
"What do you mean 'welp'??" You sputtered, head snapping towards your supposed 'brother' while he just deadpanned at you as if you were overreacting.
"I think you'd know what 'welp' means if you actually learned how to speak in first grade." He retorted shamelessly, already making banter with you like it was the most normal thing in the world.
'Tch. Smartass.' You thought to yourself, giving him the nastiest side eye you could muster all while he just huffed and his shoulders slumped.
That's when he began walking away without a word, like he already expected you to follow just as everyone should.
Did you? Hell no. Why would you? You just stood there while he waltzed off like a dumbass.
"..he can go off on his own.." you muttered to yourself under your breath, immediately turning the other way and walking in the opposite direction of him down the hall.
it would've been smart to follow him, sure, obviously you knew that. You aren't stupid, even now when you walked alone, you walked with an unnerving confidence despite the wreck of thoughts in your mind banging against your skull non-stop.
Maybe if you looked confident enough, they'd think you belonged, and sure it worked for a little bit..
Yeah, a little bit, it wasn't until you got to the very last floor, tasting freedom, when you suddenly heard footsteps running after you and someone grabbing your wrist, yanking you around.
"What the hell?!" The boy exclaimed, immediately letting you go after and jaw completely dropped in utter betrayal.
You had to crane your neck down a little to actually look at him, he was rather short..and with ginger hair, his eyes were a striking blue as well.
"Eh?" You frowned, furrowing your brow and looking the former boy up and down to assess him. He didn't seem like he was mad at you..or was gonna hurt you, he just seemed like he couldn't believe his very eyes.
Which he couldn't.
Chuuya couldn't believe that the news he unfortunately retrieved by whispers around the mafia were true. A carbon copy of dazai.
"You're dazai's sister?!" He stumbled back, utterly baffled by the sight of a female dazai in fromt of him, and you could only click your tongue.
"Am i? Happy you can tell down there, thought the clouds would block your vision." You snorted and moved your hand up to gesture between your height differences. You didn't mean to be rude, and this wouldn't be something you'd usually say, but after being kidnapped?
Yeah this kid can go trip over a log and land face first in mud.
Chuuya began to growl at you, irritation flaring up in him at the comment about his height, no less that what you said is something dazai would say. Exact. Words.
"Wh–?! Can it won't ya'?! You just got here and you're already showing attitude, no less to someone older than you." Chuuya immediately puffed up, just like a little dog when they feel threatened nd their hair starts sticking up in the back..
"How do you know you're older?" You shot back, crossing your arms over your stomach and looming over him to challenge him.
Now, chuuya was stumped. Sure, he had heard you were younger than dazai, but he hadn't taken into account that maybe that meant by a month or two, or maybe even a week, he was so focused on sticking up for himself that now he's trapped in a corner that his pride won't let go of.
"..well–obviously! I heard–that–you were younger by the boss!" Chuuya smugly smirked, trying to act confident while silently praying his lie worked.
And it did.
"Fine, whatever, you win. I don't even care anyway..." You huff, leaning away from chuuya and pouting while he got even more smug, holding in the sigh of relief that threatened to leave his lungs.
Although, it didnt take long for chuuya's smugness to fade away when he realized you were here alone.
"Where's that bandaged-idiot anyway?" He suddenly questioned, stuffing his hands in his pockets and glancing around the room; albiet futile as dazai would already be all over him annoying him every chance the dumbass gets.
"ah...zai'..?" You lazily responded, blinking once before turning to chuuya. "Dunno..he just walked off and i got pissed off with how confident he was expecting me to follow him." You shrug, and chuuya couldn't help but begrudgingly respect and find your decision both stupid and amusing.
"Fair. Pisses me off, too. I'll show you around instead, you'll die on your own wandering around anyway." He rolled his neck, then turned around to walk back towards the elevator, and this time you gladly followed.
at some point during your tour, you suddenly heared a familiar voice shout at the two of you from across the hallway.
"Hhuhhh??!! What're you doing with her?!" Dazai frowned, he obviously didn't care..he just wanted to irritate chuuya.
He didn't bother looking for you until he realized chuuya was gone too, and got suspicious.
"Dazai.." chuuya grumbled, and you just patted his shoulder to comfort him.
"Haii.." you turned around to look at your brother, giving a small wave.
For the life of him, he could not understand hoe you could be so..laidback after being kidnapped like that, although that didn't matter.
Chuuya mattered right now, and he was focused in on irritating him as his daily dose of enjoyment.
So, dazai waltzed up and grabbed you by the shoulders, snatching you away from chuuya like you were a little kid wandering off and turning to be face to face with the now pissed off ginger.
"She's my sister? I don't need you rubbing off on her and influencing her to be a stupid slug like you! She can be easily manipulated and i need to protect her!" He rammbled about, now suddenly acting as if he cared about you at all. It just made you feel empty, because you knew in a way.
"Seriously?! You just met her today, dumbass!" Chuuya barked back, immediately playing into dazai's games, pissed with himself that he's even indulging, too.
"..shut the hell up." You snapped, immediately raising a hand up to his bandaged wrist to grip it tight, and that's when the hall went completely silent.
"Oh?" Dazai turned to you, immediately taking new interest in this sudden change from you.
Chuuya on the other hand, was taken aback by the change of tone, and if he knew anything about dazai, he knew that whatever just happend definitely wasn't good.
The silence settled for a few seconds longer, until you began to walk again, not loosening your grip from your brother, if anything, it just got tighter.
You took a turn into a room, yanked him inside, slammed the door shut behind you with your foot, locking the door behind you as well and turning to him with a glare that could cut stone.
"Someone's mad.." he pointed out, frowning dramatically as if his sisters anger pained him.
"Oh–shut up! You're so fake i can feel it coming off in waves. You don't care at all." You scoffed, rolling your eyes at his behavior, which switched up the second you said that.
"I can't help but not care for someone i don't even know." he logically spoke, and you could understand that.
"And you don't want to try?" You couldn't help but feel..hurt. This was meant to be your brother, family and allat..but, then again..he's in a mafia.
You weren't surprised, that this wouldn't mean anything, and that if you killed over dead the next day he wouldn't even blink.
The mafia shapes you into the worst version of yourself. Strips you of everything and leaves you as if you have it all, but it's shallow. Being in the mafia is a gamble for your life.
Win big or die trying.
you won't die trying. If anything, you'll get out of here faster than when you arrived.
And, honestly, dazai had nothing to say to that, as he already knew it had clicked for you with the way your gaze averted and you began biting your lip, the gears turning in your head.
albiet, he'd be lying if he said he didn't want to know you. Maybe he did, but that may only be because of how quick your brain works. He wants to disect it, then turn back to the question that bothers him.
'Is this last piece of humanity worth caring for, or should i let it lie with the rest of me?'
'And how quick will it get ripped away from me?'
Hopefully i wrote their characters right, fml if not but next chapter we'll get a better look into dazai's mind, ok? ok
I didnt know if i wanted this to be a series or a oneshot, but yk what i decided on alalalallal
