Fever for Sanvers please
Thanks for the prompt!
Alex groaned as she fought to bring herself to wakefulness. Her body felt like it was filled with sand; her limbs were heavy, her headached, and her throat was raw. Her eyes were bleary as she pried them open, andthey felt almost as raw as her throat. She tried to sit up, but there wereaches and pains everywhere.
“Maggie.” She all but whimpered as she stared at the darkroom around her. It was starting to set in just how lousy she felt. She didn’tremember feeling this awful when she went to bed. She reached out for Maggie, who was sleeping next to her.
Maggie was already rousing after hearing her name, and whenAlex’s hand found her arm, she pushed herself up on her elbows and lifted herhead up. “Alex, it’s three in the morning.”
“I’m sorry.” Alex said in her scratchy, pained voice.
Maggie’s demeanor shifted instantly. “Hey, what’s going on?”
“I don’t feel well.” Alex admitted, beginning to sniffle. She’d later blame it on a runny nose she didn’t really have. She didn’t wantMaggie to know just how clingy she could be when she got sick. But she couldn’thelp the traitorous little sniffle. She felt so horrible, and so suddenly, thatshe just couldn’t help being upset about it.
Maggie pressed a hand to Alex’s forehead, and Alex thoughtshe heard a quiet curse. “You’re burning up, Alex. You’ve definitely got afever.”
“I must have the flu. I feel flu-y.” Alex said, and thoughshe was trying to hide it, it was clear how upset she was.
Maggie pressed a gentle kiss to her burning forehead, andhopped off the bed. “I’m going to get you a cool washcloth and some tylenol. Itshould bring the fever down and help you get back to sleep, okay? I’ll staywith you today, we’ll get you feeling better in no time.”
Alex nodded, feeling better already at the idea, and whispered,“Thanks.”
