Day 2: Can't Stop Puking
Diluc was only feeling mildly unsettled when he left the winery to attend to the Angel's Share for the evening. Unfortunately while there he steadily becomes sicker until it all comes to a head, and once it starts, he can't stop. Thankfully Kaeya finds him, if anyone is going to.
(He'll never admit he's relieved it was Kaeya and not someone else
please understand this fic got SO far out of hand its like 3.5k and they wanted to keep going
I saw my chance with this prompt so I took the character who doesn't drink and gave him a hangover lol
-
Diluc never drank. Like never. He hated the taste of alcohol, he hated how it made him feel, how vulnerable and emotional the drinks made him, and mostly, he hated the consequences of it. So every time someone offered him a drink, he always turned it down and stuck to his grape juice. But then why was his head throbbing, why was his mouth dry and why was he still so dizzy when he woke up? For a few seconds, Diluc was hanging on a thin thread between life and death, before his body finally decided to wake up too and slowly register everything around him.
‘Fuck…’ his throat was painfully dry and the words coming out hurt, but he still felt the need to express his displeasure about his current state.
Where was he even…? Not in his bed, that’s for sure, but the hardwood surface pushing onto his face gave him a slight sense of familiarity. If he wasn’t home, and luckily wasn’t on the streets… was he at Angels Share? Diluc tried to open his eyes to confirm his suspicions, but the sharp sunlight immediately made him regret his decisions as it triggered his head to start throbbing with twice the pain. As if it realized Diluc had woken up and wanted to make his suffering so much worse. Soft grumbling left the man’s chapped lips as he pushed himself up, one hand holding his aching head, the other gripping onto the counter for his life. His legs were weak and the room was uncomfortably swaying a little under his feet so Diluc had to hold himself up until the pain caused dizziness lessened enough for him to stay upright.
‘Oh, Master Diluc, good morning!’
‘Shut up…’
‘Grumpy as always, I see.’
‘Venti just don’t…don’t talk. My head is killing me.’
When Diluc was finally able to open his eyes and take a look around the bard was looking back at him with a pitying yet amused smile on his face as he put a glass of water in front of Diluc.
‘Drink up, it’ll help a little.’
‘I swear to every archon there is if this glass contains any alcohol…’
‘No, no, it’s just water, I swear. You already had enough drink last night.’ chuckled the bard and Diluc after smelling the liquid, just to make sure it really was water, slowly started sipping on it. The liquid was cool and fresh, but it haven’t brought any real relief for the man. His head was still throbbing, the floor still seemed a little bit unstable, every part of him was hurting and an uncomfortable fullness was sitting tightly on his stomach. Gods, how much did he drink last night, and more importantly why?
‘What happened last night...?’ asked Diluc as he put the glass down and buried his face into his hands for a moment, swallowing down the thick salvia in his mouth. ‘I feel terrible.’
‘We had a little celebration yesterday since Traveller came back from his latest adventure. And everyone was drinking and you probably drank one of the cocktails thinking it was fruit juice. And after that hit in, you really started drinking…’
‘Who even brought that cocktail…?’
‘Umm…’
‘Kaeya! I’m gonna kill hi-… Hmp!’
‘Diluc?’
The man slapped a hand over his mouth as the color rushed out of his face. There was a thin layer of cold sweat covering his skin and his stomach let out an unhappy grumble while even more bitter salvia flooded his mouth. Diluc was trying to keep his stomach contents behind his palm but couldn’t stop the gag from slipping through his fingers and Diluc closed his eyes, really not wanting to throw up all over the counter in his own inn. Luckily Venti immediately understand the situation and jumped for the wooden bucket in the corner, being a regular he knew exactly where they stored the emergency sick buckets for situations like this.
‘Just hold on a little longer!’
Diluc was really trying to hold everything at bay but his stomach painfully clenched and his throat was sore from keeping the gags down, which was getting more unsuccessful with every passing one, the huge amount of liquid trying to break free from the small prison of his stomach.
‘Okay, here, here, you’re good now.’ held Venti the bucket in front of the man who was visibly swallowing back vomit. ‘Just let it out.’
He hadn’t needed to say twice. The moment Diluc’s fingers parted from his mouth, a thick wave of pure liquid hit the bottom of the bucket and the sound made even Venti want to gag, but he continued to hold the bucket under the heaving man’s chin. Diluc harshly coughed and tried to spit out the vomit and salvia strip hanging from his lip but had almost no time before the second wave. His retching was painfully aggressive, his body trying to reject everything at the same time, which made his legs tremble and his chest flew forward with the power of the gag. Venti quickly pulled some of his bangs away so they won’t get in the way of the huge gushes of puke flowing from Diluc’s mouth and Venti was hoping Diluc doesn’t want to pass out right now because the bard haven't had even a chance to keep the taller man up.
‘It’s okay, it’s okay, you’re alright.’ Venti was patting Diluc’s back at a loss, not sure what would comfort the redheaded man. Hell, Venti hasn’t even seen Diluc drunk before this, not to mention hangover and vomiting his guts up right in front of the bard. Swapping his juice with cocktails maybe really wasn’t such a good idea. But if he brought the man into this condition, he better take care of him too.
Diluc burped up another mouthful which was now chunkier than the waves before it, the little food he had yesterday making an appearance again. At least this meant he was getting to the end of it. The man panted for a while and burped a few more times before Venti decided it was safe enough, for now, to pull the bucket away. Diluc really looked worse for wear, cold sweat shining on his temple, his hair sticking to his pale face, salvia coating his lips and dripping down on his chin but he’s gonna survive.
‘Alright, try drinking again a little. Just a few sips.’ Venti offered some water to Diluc again who held back another burp but took the glass and very carefully take a very small sip. At least he hasn’t looked like passing out anymore. The bard quickly put the bucket away, not even wanting to take a look at it, and patted Diluc’s back as he buried his head into his arms.
‘I’m gonna kill someone…’
‘Alright big boy.’ chuckled Venti. ‘But first, you better rest for a while.’

Summary:
Due to over exerting himself for far too long, Diluc has suddenly fallen ill, and is too stubborn to properly take care of himself. It is all up to Venti to step in, and make sure he gets the treatment that is much needed and well deserved.
also I just need to scream into the void because I'm 2k words into the "Can't Stop Puking" prompt and like.... sickie (Diluc) and caretaker (Kaeya) are still kind of bickering and haven't even left venue one. There's a whole section that's supposed to happen at Kaeya's house still! How Dare they!
(okay a lot of that 2k is Diluc suffering solo because he's a stubborn and doesn't know when to call it quits but. Still.)
tidbit under the cut?
Warning: Emeto (vomiting). The full fic also includes Very mildly referenced omo (wetting) and the drama inherent in putting Diluc and Kaeya into the same space.
He’s wet and uncomfortable, and there was vomit in his hair. And he was so incredibly exhausted already. Diluc wanted nothing more than to clean up and lie down somewhere in private, preferably in his bedroom at the winery.
It’s not really an option, he’s in no shape to try to return to the winery. There was space upstairs, above the Share where he could rest, at least. But the thought reminded him that there were still patrons inside that needed attending to and that he would have to pass to get where he wanted to go.
Diluc vomited again, and the scent rising from the ground beneath him was only making him feel sicker. But he didn’t feel strong enough to try and rise again yet. By now, he was drained.
[snip]
“Kaeya-”
“Don’t.” The word comes out sharply, is perhaps the most harsh thing Diluc has had Kaeya direct at him since that awful night. “Don’t ask me to abandon you while you’re this sick.”
The follow up is–again–not anywhere on the list of expectations that Diluc had. Kaeya was full of surprises tonight.
